OOC: I'm sorry to hear that, pal. Don't apologize! There's no attendance! Real life, and especially health, obviously are far more important than this game. If you want a break from it, we can have Ovid work on some secret project until you are able and interested in resuming play.

Rebma is a serene and solid city, while Amber is caught in internal turmoil. We can lean on that to bring in others of the family who are less thrilled with Flora's rule. And use it as a reason to keep the Church of the Unicorn out," Llewella says to Ovid. "Maeve will need to be kept here. The worst thing that could happen is if she goes off to live in the Courts of Chaos, or even worse, marries one of the Chaos Lords," Moire says.

"Allowing Maeve to marry a Chaos Lord might be acceptable if he petitioned to officially join House Lir...," Lorelei suggests. .

#s://i~ibb~co/m0mP1nk/Moire~jpg "Llewella, how did it go the last time a Lord of Chaos tried to join our family? Moire asks sweetly. Her sister grumbles in response. "I think this is enough for today. I am certain that we all have a lot to think about. We will try for another meeting tomorrow but that may depend on how quickly events are moving."

Lorelei decides that now would be a good time to visit her grand-mother, the former queen Moins. The flow of events is likely to make such a visit later problematic... .

#s://i~ibb~co/VtnFQDc/moins~png Mois lives in a large, overgrown estate on the edge of the city. Past an iron gate crusted with barnacles and overgrown with sea weed a winding path leads through wild terrain until it reaches a small manor with a tall tower. The sole servant, a bent and aged man, opens the door for Lorelei and slowly leads her up the spiral stairs to the topmost rooms of the tower. "Lorelei! How nice for one of my descendants to remember that I exist. What brings you by?"The ancient woman looks much older than when Lorelei last met her. Her hair is much grayer and thinner, and her skin is looser.

Lorelei approaches and gently takes Moins' hands in her own, a look of concern upon her face as she takes in her grandmother's condition. "More time has passed than I realized. To say my duties have kept me busy would just be an excuse. I regret not coming to visit more often. I hope you can forgive me..."
This woman had been Rebma's Queen when Benedict was just a child and deserved better. There had been a time when this woman and her other grandmother could have passed for twins. Was this a peek at her own future multiple centuries from now if she didn't follow the change Tritons undergo?
Ignoring protocol Lorelei draws Moins into a close but gentile embrace. "Would I fair any better if I again begged you to come back to the palace?" .

#s://i~ibb~co/VtnFQDc/moins~png "There's nothing to forgive. Living in the castle is an endless procession of duties and emergencies. That's why I stay out here, just as my own mother did so long ago. It comes a time when it's best to get out of the way and let the children take on the responsibility."

"Duty... Sometimes it feels like my only value to the crown is to be seen listening to the problems of the people, not that there is really anything I can do for them while Moire is still on the throne," Lorelei sighs. "Martin has gone into hiding again. Some sorcerer has found a way to attack us through the mirrors. The weather above has degenerated into near constant storms threatening trade and food production, and its reflection is starting to affect us... Enough of the family above is either dead or gone leaving an ego-bloated empty-headed Florimel to play regent and she already thinking herself Queen of the ENTIRE Multiverse with her toxic levels of NOT intelligence and systematic mismanagement... Maeve showed up briefly and is gone again... and on top of everything else, Moire and Llewella are deliberately NOT keeping me in the loop just because I told Florimel that while I would help, because it helps Rebma, but I am NOT one of her subjects...," she unloads. "How am I going to help Rebma when so much I need to know is being kept from me...?" .

#s://i~ibb~co/VtnFQDc/moins~png The old woman cackles a long laugh. "Silly Florimel in charge! I remember her first visit here as a young woman - the lords wanted her, the ladies wanted to be her, yet no matter how tightly they were wrapped around her finger, she couldn't get them to do anything useful! I can imagine it now, she's holding parties and flattering all the city's nobles while all Shadow goes to hell around her.
"Don't think too harshly of your mother. I know that she's protecting you from the worst of her problems. I was the same when my daughters were young. They will soon make dangerous choices with grave consequences, and Moire wishes to shield you from the fallout.
"It is a shame about Maeve; it's the Chaos in her, you see. She will always be caught between the three worlds. I wish your aunt hadn't gone for that Helgram fellow. No, I should have convinced her to stay away from him. Ah, well, what's done is done. And I couldn't have prevented her anyway; I am certain she saw him in her mirror and decided it was a fate she couldn't avoid.
"Tell me more of this sorcerer."

"All of that combined is not even HALF the problem with Florimel. She is jumping to ridiculous conclusions based on unquestioned circumstantial 'evidence' and then even after being shown the verifiable truth to the contrary she refuses to admit that she 'MIGHT' have been wrong," Lorelei says in an obvious tone of disgust.
"I am trying hard not to do that, but at times mother frustrates me so. I could help solve some of those problems if she would just let me in. Keeping me in the dark does not shield me. It leaves me vulnerable to being blindsided... There are times I do not believe she understands how much family means to me..."
"In a way I can sort of understand Maeve's position. I have a yearning to spend time with, and better know, my father and half-brother. They are a missing piece of my life."
"There is not much I can tell you about the sorcerer. It appears that he is one of those things I am being 'shielded' from. I know he brought an eel-like creature with him that killed several guards and some staff before being driven back through the mirror which was then broken. I can repeat the description I was given of him," and she does so. Pulling something from her pouch she says, "This is a fragment of the mirror he came through..."

#s://i~ibb~co/VtnFQDc/moins~png Moins covers the shard with her hands. Concentrates on the sensation for a minute. "Yes, I can feel the trace of the mirror magic in this shard. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell us much; the mirrors are our greatest weakness when they are all commonly used. Yet..there is something else....a power over the mirrors different from ours, a power from some other place."

"Do you think working together we could isolate this other power and then make this fragment function as a loadstone on a string to trace it back to this other power's source?" Lorelei asks. .

I've heard that you have recently improved your skill with-"Lorelei is distracted from the woman's words by the sensation of someone attempting to contact her by trump.

Lorelei raises a hand and her gaze shifts at the attempted contact in much the same way as Llewella does; something Moins would easily note.
"Yes?" she tentatively answers. There are very few that could have a Trump of her and she was on at least positive terms with those she is aware of... Still, she palms her compact just in case. .
