Ovid will nod, "As you wish, your Majesty."
He looks to Princess Lorelei, "You look to have something on your mind ?"

"Nothing important in the Regent's so-called mind. With only circumstantial evidence, IF that, she jumps to the worst possible conclusions. She refuses to acknowledge confirmable evidence that invalidates her unsupportable conclusions. Instead of even TRYING to rule from strength, which is how things have been done since the founding of Amber, she is destroying the power of the throne by buying-off the nobles to get what she wants. Her every failure and the greed it engenders among the nobles in Amber is beginning to infect Rebma as demonstrated by N'Realle and his supporters. Add to that the fact that the royals there and here have been attacked but neither kingdom is attempting to retaliated, and are instead cutting themselves off from the very tools that are useful in Amber and vital here... All of this before you even consider the problems this weather is generating... What do you think?" Lorelei asks... .

#s://i~ibb~co/xqdCvzH/Llewella~jpg [OOC I'm not sure if you are referring to Ovid or the others. I will reply and let Ovid chime in too.] Llewella speaks. "There certainly are plenty of circumstances, and it is only natural to search for a link between them all. Corwin and Bleys' attack on Amber killed many of the commoners and nobles of the city. They still neither forgive nor forget. Random pacified them by expanding the opportunities for them in the Golden Circle and by having the two of them away from Amber as much as possible. Flora doesn't have that option and tries to, as you say, buy them off. If you asked her, she would say that her plan is to use their greed and petty rivalries to trap them in a compromising social and economic structure for when the rains cease.
"To strike without knowing the who and where of our foes is worse than doing nothing. Amber is short on available princes and continues to lose more."

"Regent Florimel does rule differently. She is and always has been a social creature. I think she knows how to play the nobles it is just not what Amber is used to. She is dealing with problems the other rulers have not had to like endless rains and not having strong backing by multiple family members. I would say give it some time, that being said, I also can see that the way she is manipulating the nobles infecting your people is not something good for Rebma. You need to do what is good for your realm. I think the Regent would act with strength if she had some strong dependable family. Though my generation does not seem to impress upon her enough to take us seriously." Ovid closes his eyes briefly and inhales in a long draw still getting used to breathing in Rebma.
"What is the path that you wish for Rebma ?" He asked the other royals.

"I am certain Florimel would agree with you about how and what she is doing," Lorelei tells Llewella, "but one does not climb out of a quagmire by figuratively cutting off their own legs. The nobles will continue to take and take until the crown is just a figurehead... Regaining that power requires a strength of character she does... not... have..."
"Amber's problem is Florimel refusing to see what is right in front of her, deciding 'what is' instead of perceiving it, and thus driving away those she needs AS support... and that leading to her current choice of actions..."
"Our problem isn't about striking, it is about hiding instead of searching." .

#s://i~ibb~co/m0mP1nk/Moire~jpg "Benedict put Flora in charge before he rode off into shadow. We must assume the two of them have something planned. It may not be necessary to keep her on the throne, though.
"Perhaps they wait to see which of you should be taken seriously. Could they be waiting to see who will search for the solution to the weather? Whom among you will impress them? You speak of hiding and not searching, but what have you done to improve your standing in Amber, Lorelei?"

"That Rebma is not actively searching for those who would attacked us through the Mirrors has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Amber, daughter of Oberon. Why do you try to combine them? Has Florimel's defective cognition infected you?" Always before, if Lorelei has ever referred to Rebma's royal sisters with a genealogical reference, that reference has been daughters of Moins, or if specifically the Queen then daughter of Lir. This was her first ever divisive reference targeting Llewella.
"As for improving my position in Amber... Let's start with I finally visited THAT kingdom once my sister's killer died. Instead of reaching the castle, I tried to ensure there is piece between Calvera and myself despite the history of our fathers so often being at each other's throats. It really doesn't matter that the only things he was interested in were flaunting his arrogance and seeking bloodshed. When I inadvertently denied him this by protecting our ship, despite offers to try again so he could have his fight, without a word he abandoned us in Shadow at his first opportunity. While it wasn't my primary goal, continuing on I returned the remains of a beloved uncle to his homeland for burial with your assistance. I continued to both seek out said uncle's killer and, in the company of Brian and the shrill known as Lady Shelly, to retrieve Gerard's heir. Having crossed half a continent and climbed to the top of ice-covered mountains I discovered that not only did Leonil survive his apparent incompetence that resulted in the explosion which killed Random, he had gone totally insane and was holding Dorian magically in thrall. Atop that mountain, in a pitched battle between many factions with many more on the way, Leonil forced Dorian to Trump them away. Also in that battle, Brian killed Varda (sp?) and we received help from Dionisia at great cost to herself. To repay her helpfulness, I have made several unsuccessful attempts to contact my brother so that he may look into things on her behalf. I am still seeking to free Dorian from all the bindings upon him, despite the delays caused by Florimel's Regency Party and Brian's unannounced 'official' visit here, and will present to him, that is Dorian, his inheritance once I am convinced he is himself again and thus not a threat to either kingdom. While at Flora's little shindig, I disavowed her of the notion that I am one of her subject, but I am attempting to help family and thus indirectly supporting Amber because it will help Rebma. I also informed her that Hammett had been under our observation at the time so we know AS A FACT that his only connection to the explosion that killed Random was as a victim of wrong-place-wrong-time, but since that didn't support her delusions she refused to hear it and has continued power-driving Amber into the ground..."
"After years of experience I know you are no fonder of Amber than I. WHAT have YOU been doing besides playing 'bestest girlfriend' with your topside sister?" she asks Llewella... .

Much of the information he was hearing came to him in one form or another though not as clearly till now. He inclined his head to Llewella acknowledging her presence.
His eyes moved between the two women occasionally looking to the Queen for any reaction.

#s://i~ibb~co/m0mP1nk/Moire~jpg "How do you know that an investigation is not underway?" Moire asks. Llewella gets the distracted look of someone in a trump contact. She listens then replies "Okay. We understand." "And it isn't just a Rebma thing since Amber was also attacked recently-"Llewella interrupts. "And it was just attacked again. Lord Rexin, spymaster, was just assassinated. The killer entered by way of a mirror. A mirror left uncovered by you Ovid. Was it your idea to bring him here via a mirror, Lorelei?
"Flora wants Ovid imprisoned on sight and then brought back to Amber for trial. A trial I do not think you could win, Ovid. The usual punishment is execution, but since Eric decided to spare Corwin's life, Flora might be forced only to imprison you.""Can you possibly conceive how bad this makes us look? On the same day we announce that we're taking her throne from her, one of you lets her handpicked top advisor get killed. And you wish to proclaim that we had eyes on Hammett as Random was killed. How many black eyes do you wish our family to have?
"And on the other topics you mentioned: I don't seduce Princes of Amber to have children that won't fight to advance Rebman's standing in Amber. A child of mirrors I can get from any of the long list of suitors Rebma supplies me with. Eric and I grew to dislike each other, but this was long after Calvera was born and had nothing to do with the boy. You don't need to compete with him on my behalf. Dionisia is no one of importance, so I don't recommend bragging about assisting her. You have been busy but not at the targets that will bring the greatest renown: find Coral, return the stone to Amber, and with luck, things will return to normal weather-wise. You alone, for Brian and Ryland will happily take all the reward and renown away from you.
"Ovid, we are not dogs who jump at Flora's every word. We will not be arresting you for as long as feasibly possible. But in return, you will need to stay in Rebma and not have contact with others in the family, lest they assume your plotting continues.""Not that you're owed an explanation from me, child, but I have been busy. Protecting Rebma and Amber, cleaning up the messes you and your cousins leave out in Shadow? Do you know Brennon? A special man, made of stern stuff. Survived a battle with Calvera. Only a little effort was needed to get him and his fanatical followers on our side. There are other things done and being done that are not fit to be mentioned just yet."

"Really... I am a user of the advanced techniques and a member of the royal family. If there IS an investigation, then I should have been part of it from the beginning. Telling me there is one, after the fact, and not having asked me to help with it means you have been hiding it from me. Covering our mirrors and acting paranoid won't stop anyone sufficiently insane from attack us, mirror or no mirror, and actively impedes our ability to investigate, identify, capture, and put an end to the threat," Lorelei responds.
"Moreover, is there any ACTUAL proof, other than Florimel's paranoia and a rough coincidence of timing, that a mirror was in ANY way involved in the death of Amber's spymaster? Anyone holding that position has, by default, uncountable enemies who will use anything handy to throw pursuit off their trail... Where were the guards? Paranoia and coincidence are the sum total of everything Florimel uses to perceive the world around her. Any five-year-old can run circles around every category, other than parties and posturing, of her so-called ability to think, as she has repeatedly demonstrated... Until you show me something that isn't circumstantial at best, THIS will remain more of the same."
"What I did with Calvera was an attempt to smooth over any potentially smoldering resentments along the bloodlines, no competition involved. I've never heard the name Brennon. Everything else I've been trying to do has involved matters of honor. I'm sorry you find that to be inconvenient or insignificant matters to the throne..." .

"Your increase in skill was quite recent. The investigation has been going on for much longer. It involves dealing with Flora, so you have been deemed unfit to participate in this work," Moire says.
"Flora may be paranoid or the rest of us naive; she has been talking about the strange number of descendants showing up over the last few years , even before Caine was killed. Once it was only Martin, there was a baby boom just before and during the war, and the kids have kept coming since then. Nothing like this has ever happened before, so it is logical to assume some other power is affecting the family. We can not assume this is a benevolent power.
"Ovid, you are a recently found member of the family, what are your thoughts on your glut of cousins?"

"Perhaps some ancient seal or curse which afflicted the families fertility was lifted with the actions of the last war with Chaos. It could be such was written into the pattern but when it was rescribed it could be that, that detail was left out. I agree from hearing about how we were a very infertile family yet my experience is there are many of us. Even rumors of fake members of the family or perhaps unlucky members who cannot pass the test of the Pattern."

#s://i~ibb~co/xqdCvzH/Llewella~jpg "I am sure that there have always been unacknowledged family members scattered about shadow. Never before have so many been collected here over such a short time span. A certain order of succession was available to us in the old days, now all these children have cast our order into chaos, so to speak, right at the time when Random is killed and the stone missing. My trust in coincidence doesn't stretch this far."

"I don't think it is coincidence either. Yet what power may be at play to gather us all would seem to be on a higher order, it is only our actions which might make it seem Chaotic. If we are being gathered for a reason I can see one clearly. Amber needs to come out from under the angry clouds. There is more to do than this certainly."
