It means that Cody thinks that D was his mother. Whatever the truth is may be quite different however ....

And since we may soon have 4 points of Analysis
If Ryland is a Son of Bleys we may be able to rule out the "Is Brian a Red Head" Hypothesis or at least present really strong evidence on that.
In addition to that: Mitochondrial DNA can be tested. And we can determine if Edward, Dalt, Brian, and Ryland's mothers share a common female ancestor.

Why obsess with hair? What colour was Oberon's hair?

I mean Red Hair also pops as a random mutation to

And I mean oberon may have wanted to hide his true heritage ( as red hair is often a mystical cover for otherness). And Clarissa's kids all hit the DNA jackpot

The general canon is that all of Oberon's children take their physical appearance from their mothers.
If that holds true, then Brand's kids WOULD NOT be redheads unless the mother is also a redhead. But, Fiona's kids will be redheads.
However, Zelazny didn't stick to this rule for the next generation...
Martin doesn't look like he's from Rebma / Merlin does look like Corwin / etc...

It could be relevant to the governing pattern magic of the parent

Red hair is a recessive gene, so if there is red hair in the family then it will persist. Not with every birth but you will see it a lot. I should know ... my borther has red hair, my dad had red hair (before he lost it) and my grandma on my dad's side had red hair.
I do note though that Amberites are obsessed with red heads.

Thats due to Red Hair as a trait of mystical significance

The have red hairs, they are witches, sorcerers, burn them. This is Alexandra not a witch, but a daughter of Brand and a shadow version of Deirdre. She is trained by Julian as an archer snd now second in command in Arden. And for those who still want to burn her on a stake.. she is immune to fire... lol Attachments:

I have a red head in my con stable who isnt one of Clarissa's line.
She was a descendant of a liaison between RANDOM and a Shadow Fiona. And Random made Julian claim her as a daughter.
And she was a protege of Caine ( who knew her parentage before Random did)

Caine not only knew he signed as a representative for the father on the baptismal records

Oberon was a shape shifter. His kids would most likely have inherited some of that and they could have subconsciously changed their appearance (and perhaps their very DNA!) to the person who had the most influence in their early life. Very likely their mothers (or siblings in Dierdre's case and perhaps others) as Oberon was a very busy guy, what with helping maintain the cosmic order, running the kingdom of Amber and spreading his not so very potent seed (unless the plot needed it) around to produce 47 offspring. Perhaps an Advanced Pattern ability is 'create scion' saving him a bit of trouble. LOL Perhaps being an Amberite is due to a third string of DNA? The machine just reads the 2 that it knows how to read and ignores that pesky third one that doesn't make any sense. According to the machine the person in question might be an almost perfect clone of their non Amberite parent. I don't think that would work, but I'm a shadow dweller with a certain paradigm of thinking. The hard thing about the Amberverse is that everything is possible including things that completely break what we consider to be foundations for reality. What if Lords of Chaos have no DNA at all unless they form them? And they can form them into what they want them to be?
