The Heavy walks up to me and introduces himself. Normally I would take his hand and hurl him over the guard rail but I decided not to. He's heard of me and introduced himself, he's being polite. I can do the same.
I take his hand and test his grip expecting to have him completely overmatched of course but I'm being polite I don't break fingers.
"Yes I am Calvera. What brings you on such a dingy dingey?
[OOC: The results of the hand shake should be private or PMed, no point in embarrassing the new guy in front of all the other players right away.]

The handshake isn't intended as a test of strength. If you use the grip as a test of strength he pushes back until one of the two of you meets a match. He withdraws his hand at the completion of the ritual of handshaking. He takes the test of strength in mind as it goes on. He seems to give Calvera a serious nod at the end. You've heard tale in some outlander cultures its a sign of showing a lack of violent intent in greeting. "I've been hired to perform a task for the Young Lady Chantriss. She made her payment and its only fair I perform the task asked of me to the extent she made her deal."

"If you made a deal then you need to deliver."
I look around the deck it's getting very full. And I still need a nap.
I turn back to Lorelei, "The most important part of a limited franchise Democracy is how you limit. I assume you have walked the pattern, in Remba I expect. Or do you swim it under water?
Don't mention Paris to Eivor, I haven't had a chance to. And don't let Barrett sink us."
With that I go below and rack out.

She tells Calvera, "Mother has not allowed me access to Rebma's Pattern. When the opportunity presented itself, I took one of the lesser Patterns. And those of us with nearly pure ancient blood, such as myself, are not limited to the enchanted environs needed by the air-breathers."
"If any ask, I will say only that I have agreed to follow wherever you lead for a time. It is not my intent to allow this vessel to sink," she says with a smile. "Get some rest. We can talk more later..."
Lorelei watches Calvera go below. .

"I do not intend for them to travel with us to Deiga; I presume they have other more distant destinations to get to," Eivor replies. "As log as they do not interfere in our business then I will not interfere in theirs."
"Let us hope we can at least get where we need to be in once piece. A degree of luck will be required from what I've seen."
She deals six cards from her tarot deck in a pattern, scans the result then shuffles them back in. "If this leaky tub falls apart at the first gust of wind I will be having words with my uncle."

Katerina nods. "Good. The fewer involved and know our business the better."
She watches Eivor shuffle and deal the cards in the Pattern and then looks at the faces of the various people on them, trying to memorize all the faces that show up.
"For some reason I thought we were travelling on your best transport. I am frightened and a little relieved that your opinion of the 'ship' thing resembles my own." Katerina feels the ship start to move on the sea beneath her and is not in the least comforted. She sits down to avoid lurching across the room.
"What was that you were doing?" She asks.

He looks at Calvera with a clear look of annoyance and irritation, but not at him.
"You and yours have a strange sense of honor and about how you flail implications at some one's honor." He shakes his head at him. " You asked what I was doing, I told you how I came to the boat. Do you treat everyone who tells you he is paid that he is some sort of a curr? Or at least thats how it would be taken in my home."
He pulls a flash of silver and takes a hit from it and offers it to Calvera " And I could go on about Representative Republic's if you'd like as a topic later on when we get to the boring part of a boat trip."
He perks at the discussion of the Pattern but he doesn't meddle in the conversation as he wanders off to try to negotiate with whomever had the closest bunkspace to Shelly

"Casting the cards," Eivor replies. "It is said that the weave of fate works through these cards, and those with the art can read the future depending how the cards land. I don't pretend to have much skill, but it passes the time and offers some amusement. It also reminds me what we've lost, and how much bloodgeld needs to be paid."

Katerina parsed Eivor's words.
Bloodgeld needs to be paid. Blood geld. Geld is some kind of gold maybe, so blood gold. Gold that was obtained through blood. Kat decided symptahy and interest was best.
"I'm sorry. Losing those who are close can be really hard. So the cards tells people's forunes right? Could they tell the fortunes of anyone? Like me for instance if that is not too impertanent a question."

There are no set berths, just people hanging their hammocks between posts below decks when it is time to sleep then removing them when they awaken. It is easy enough to convince the crew to let Brian always sleep by Shelly's door, albeit with a few grins and knowing eyebrow raises and tapping of noses.
Slow to start, but once moving, the ship gains speed and eventually runs at a good clip as it passes Cabra. Barrett takes out an astrolabe, telescope, and charts, then instructs the man at the wheel to change course towards a distant island. Keeping an eye on the sun's position through the clouds and locations of Cabra and other islands, he finds the correct course to enter the shadowpath towards Deiga.
The waters and land and sky constantly change, sometimes subtly other times suddenly as the Antelope makes her way, yet the overcast skies never shift, and squalls of rain occasionally fall.

Brian rolls his eyes at the sexual jokes. He takes a short nap of an hour or two then he starts to patrol and inspect the decks. Get a good idea of the security situation on the boat if he needs to deal with extraction of his client. He might talk to anyone so long as they are willing to follow him.
After he does a security perimeter check he knocks on the door to check on Shelly.

Lorelei moves to the bow of the ship, partly to be out of the way of the crew and partly to watch the water. She seldom gets to see it from topside.
Anyone coming close will hear her singing softly in the Rebman tongue, sounding similar to Thari but different enough to be unintelligible... Every so often, dolphins can be seen racing the ship...

I felt a lot better after my nap and woke in late afternoon. I grabbed a biscuit and some tea from the cook who wasn't a bad guy and head back up on deck. This time wearing a shirt, but still no shoes.
It was going to be a long journey and I still wanted to kill the captain so I was going to need to calm. Lorelei was up in the bow singing to the waves, Merfolk are strange, but that looked like the best spot. Barrett hadn't sunk us yet but his ship wasn't overly clean so I grabbed a mop and bucked and started swabbing the deck, just the bow. Fortunately the planks were smooth so I didn't need to grab a holy stone.
That done I oriented myself to the sun stripped off my shirt and began my salutation.

"Not so much people's fortunes, more the path to take or to avoid and who might influence it," Eivor explains. "It is not something to rely upon, but it will help us pass the time."
"Now I suggest you catch up on your reading," she smiles, before once more picking up the wooden slat she had been carving and her knife which gleams in the thin light of the cabin.
