"Two trumps? That is a lot of time and effort, my friend. Didn't I mention how for two trumps the Prime Minster of Begma is apparently going to make me more wealthy then I can imagine? But I am sure we can work something out. As for who and where, I can make one of your ship, that way you could always return to it or find it no matter where you are in shadow."
Hammett looks back at the prisoner, "As for Renault. Yes, I would say we are close. He will be willing to help as long as it doesn't put him or his job in at any risk. I would be worried for his personal safety and that of his staff if we bring this man to him. I fear no ordinary prison cell will hold him, especially if his demon friends come looking to rescue him. But there were other interested parties..."
He looks back at Brennon, "How strong is the hold of your ship? How well guarded? Would you be willing to risk keeping him confined there until I can reach out to some other parties that may be willing to take him off our hands? If not, I can bring him to Wormwood's and have my staff keep an eye on him."
<<OCC: Not really sure where to lead/move the story from here, especially if Amber is closing off the shadow and moving on to other priorities. I know Hammett has ties to Kasaba (Wormwood's, Ugate, Renault, etc...) so he wants to make sure everything is okay here, plus take care of Strasser. That is my current plan, but that might be more a personal interest/project, then major story-wise stuff. So maybe the main storyline is moving away from Kasaba to other locals? I don't really know, and I don't want to tie Brennon down to my personal stuff here in Kasaba if he has his own stuff to be taking care of.>>

The Conductor slightly recovers as Brennon and Hammett speak. He feebly tugs at the ropes which tie him to the chair and tries to speak through his dry mouth. No sound comes out of him other than a weak groan.
The door to the cabin opens and a lieutenant enters.
"Sirs, if you are finished in here a launch has been prepared to return you to the city," he states.

Hammett looked between the Conductor and Brennon, "Well, your place or mine?"

The Conductor opens one swollen eye and looks out to the city beyond.
"Iss morning," he whispers through a damaged face. "Must get to the station. Could still catch the 7:20 to Oran." this is the limit of his energy for speech and he falls back unconscious.

[ooc: I had a reply, but it got eaten by the ethernet instead of posted, then there were 2 more replies before I got back to reconstructing it, and now there's another one...]
"Celessia is only wood*, but she'll hold him. She can certainly set up a fuss if he tries to escape, and she'll block any attempts to free him magically. We can negotiate the price later. I don't need a trump for her to find me, either, but I thought you might want one to call her to port. We'd only need a trump to leave easily, if the sea lanes are closed."
Brennon looks at the mostly unconscious man.
"It seems more has been replaced than his internal structure. Part of his mind seems to be wound up like an automaton, too."
*ooc resistant to firearms(2pts). Brennon isn't being entirely truthful.

"Interesting."
Hammett goes next to the Conductor, "I'm going to try and see if I can get anything from his mind. On the off chance something goes wrong be ready to knock me on my ass to try and break the contact, okay?"
Hammett then tries to use his psyche, like he did with the Shadow creatures in his bar earlier, to probe the Conductor's mind. He is very slow and cautious while doing this, saving lots of energy to resist any feedback at first until he is sure that it is safe.

C'mon, keep your secrets for as long as you can! Powers kind of have to be described but the other bits can be hidden.

The man's mind is strong but in his weakened state it is easy for Hammett to probe his thoughts. Most involve trains - the mechanics and operations of, and the stations on the route from Kasaba to Oran. Reaching deeper he reveals memories of France before the war. Hammett senses a barrier in the Conductor's mind; possibly a well of a natural reserve or something implanted by those who operated upon the man. Hammett gets a feeling of danger from getting to close to it.

For now Hammett avoids probing the barrier, not willing to risk it at the current time, but he does keep looking at the recent memories of the man. His fight with Brennon, and anything about where he might have hidden the stolen documents.

The memories reveal the documents being given to desert tribesmen who then rode off with them by camelback through the mountains and supposedly onto the Grand Erg Occidental desert beyond. The Conductor does not know where the final destination is or who the tribesmen will contact.

Hammett breaks the contact and looks to Brennon, "The papers are gone. Given to desert nomads but he doesn't know where they were taking them after that. He also has some sort of mental block in his mind. I am unsure if it is of his own making or an others, but it was powerful. I would hesitate to try and breach it on my own, I do not think I am powerful enough for that."
"Your ships hold should be fine for now. And if he proves to troublesome you can always make him walk the plank."

Brennon responds to Hammett's news about the papers with a few well-chosen words from several different shadows, some of which are quite far from Amber.
"So that time you just spent, you were looking into his mind?" Brennon looks a bit uncomfortable at the invasion of privacy, but he covers it. "An interesting skill. A shame the papers got away."
"People think walking the plank is a terrible thing," he adds with a touch of irritation. "It won't do much good, this close to shore. Though I suppose he's heavy enough to make it an interesting walk back into port. If what you want is to make a man think twice about crossing you, Celessia can give him nightmares to beat any quick, simple drowning. I prefer to toss them over once they're dead, in any case. Much cleaner, and you know they won't come back later." Something in his face suggests that it's happened at least once in his past.
"We can see if Celessia can tease anything out about what's locked up in his mind. Shall we?" Brennon looks Hammett over, making a quick decision that he's the stronger of the two, broken hand or not. He slings the conductor back over his shoulder, pockets a small bottle of Gerard's expensive liqueur and proceeds to the launch, ordering the hands to proceed across the harbour to his ship, instead of the dock near Wormwood's.

As the first launch arrives Hammett turns to Brennon, "Can you get that process started without me? I should get back to town and inform Captain Renault of what is going on, plus start taking care of some business before this shadow is cut off. I will join you as soon as I can."

Brennon gives Hammett a smile that doesn't quite hide his sense of superiority about 'townies'.
"Sure, I can manage. Just don't leave me waiting long at the dock for you; I get the feeling that staying too long will just bring down another embargo."
