{OOC: I didn't realize that Brennon was on the short side. From the Hemsworth picture I assumed he was a mid-sixfooter.]
"We don't need to be experts in the field but be good enough for a few incisions now to take a look under the hood but also keep him alive for questioning later; left-handed could still be good enough assuming you didn't drink too much last night or had too much coffee this morning."
He pages an orderly to get the items Hammett requested.
"Start on the face," he says, "Under the bruise where Brennon hit 'im."

[ooc: It's in the character description, amd possibly the background as well, but I guessed it had been missed. Brennon's well-proportioned, so you don't notice how short he is until there are others to compare to.]
"I'm always good for a morning-after", Brennon says with a twisted grin.
He washes his hands and moves to assist Hammett, taking direction from both of the bigger men with the skill of someone familiar with a brothel's other profession- tending those injured in their line of work. Cleaning instruments, being ready with bandages, suturing equipment, a fresh towel, and somehow disappearing into the background, a feat some would have thought impossible for the plucky, quarrelsome little Captain.

Hammett puts on the apron and take a sip of his coffee before getting to work.
He makes a small incision in the area where Brennon hit the man so hard.

The tools are of fine craftmanship - lightweight, perfectly balanced in the hand, and the scalpels have blades of some wondrously incredibly sharp material.
Slicing into the man is easy and reveals bone structure same as a normal human but thick bands of brass have been welded along the edge of his jaw in what must have been a very painful operation. Even before cutting farther into him you can surmise that most if not all of his bones have been treated this way.

Hammett winces in sympathetic pain, and looks to Brennon, "Well, that explains how you hurt your hand."
He then looks back at Gerard, "Can I stitch him up now, or do you want me to keep going?"

Brennon also winces, and looks disgusted. He's obviously seen enough of this sort of thing not to be nauseous, but both the medical procedures to meld man and machine, and the procedures that uncovered it, are clearly distasteful to him.

#s://i~ibb~co/P5jnV3V/gerard-fix~jpg "No, that should be enough. Anything else will just be more of the same." Gerard replies. "What was done to him is not native to this place at this time and demons are playing about under his command. Someone is taking an unusual amount of interest in this shadow. Maybe breaking the shadowpath is the best way to seal the problem off."

Hammett nods and begins stitching up the prisoner. Once done he turns back to Gerard and Brennon. "Closing the shadowpath might be a bit extreme, wouldn't it? Maybe the plot is more about Amber then here. I mean, what makes this shadow so important? It is not even in the Golden Circle. Kasaba might just be one of many battlegrounds, rather then the whole war. Or if the threat is arising from here, maybe whoever is backing Strasser and the German forces, wouldn't it be best to just get Random to bring in a small portion of the Amber army and wipe them out? Either way, just closing this shadow off seems to be avoiding the problem, possibly allowing it to grow unchecked until it expands beyond here."

"There are tricks to working with shadow you have yet to pick up on, Hammett," Gerard replies.
He gets up, puts on a heavy cloak, grabs a few things out of drawers, then straps on his heavy sword.
"There are things I need to do in Amber. Once this Conductor is recovered enough get him to shore then finish up what you need to do in Kasaba."
He draws out the card for Amber and steps through.

Hammett watches after the vanishing Gerard, then turns to Brennon.
"Well alright then. I guess that is that. With all the typical Amber thanks and gratitude."
He goes over to Gerard's table and takes back the fancy mug Gerard "borrowed" from Wormwood's.
"What are you going to do now? I mean after getting your ship and crew out of Kasaba before they close the shadowpath?"

"Well," Brennon finishes carefully wiping his hands dry after their final cleaning. "I suppose that depends on where you're headed next. What will you do without Wormwood's? Or do I misread you about whether you'll stay? I'm a privateer and a smuggler, as you well know, and if you think I'm native to this shadow you're more the fool than I've seen you to be these past years. My Lady and I have other ports to call on, but I'd miss our late-night dawn talks."

Hammett smiles, "I'd miss them as well. Fortunately I don't need to travel the shadowpaths to get to and from Wormwood's, or Kasaba for that matter, but I am afraid that the closing will be bad for business. Hard to make a living dealing in information and smuggling in a location cut off like Kasaba soon will be. And without Amber's help I fear that Strasser maybe be as good as his word and the German's will take the city."
He ponders his options for a few moments, "I did have an offer to do a job for the Prime Minister of Begma. Supposedly would pay enough that I wouldn't need to run a bar anymore. And my gut feeling is that if he is desperate enough to pay that much money for the creation of a couple of Trump portraits, then there must be something going on there, or about to go on. Could be an opportunity for an intrepid Captain and his ship to find a way to make some coin. Chaos has a way of doing that, I believe."

"Money's all well and good, but it's really only a way to keep score. There's always something going on somewhere that will let me find profit, and as a dealer in exotic cargo, I've been nearly to Chaos myself a time or two."
Brennon's misinterpretation of Hammett's use of the word 'chaos' might be telling a bit more than he intended. He doesn't seem to notice, pausing reflectively before continuing.
"If you're making more trumps, making one of my ship would let you keep trade going, even with all the sea lanes closed here. It might be worthwhile to have the only trade in and out of the shadow. For a while, anyhow. If, on the other hand, you want to go to Begma.. I've never docked there, but I know the way. I could take you as a passenger, for a price."

"I think I will take you up on that offer. An ocean journey to Begma might be just what the doctor ordered. And it might be good to get out of Kasaba for a few weeks. But first, there is somethings I need to do here in town. Staff and friends to look after. Plans to make. I think we will have some time before Amber closes the shadowpath. At least as long as Gerard's fleet remains docked here, not as if he'd seal them inside. As for smuggling. I think soon it will be very profitable in this neck of the woods. Getting people out of Kasaba and possibly bringing in weapons for the resistance against the Germans. "
He checks over the prisoner to see if he/it has started to regain consciousness.
"And while Gerard might not care, I still want to learn a bit more about what happened here. Like who is this man working for. Why and how he had demons helping him. What was their end goal? To draw Amber into this war or is there something else going on?"

"How close a friend is Inspector Renault? Do we need to get the information from him ourselves, or will he tell you the answers he can't put in a report?" Brennon seems to assume that the conductor is bound for Renault's in the end, no matter what else happens.
"I think for payment, a trump into Kasaba and a trump out of Kasaba sounds like the right price. Can you do that? Will I need to find a contact person for each place, or do you already have one?"
"I'll stay until Gerard's fleet readies for sea."
