#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "I don't think Dara is against the Amberness in you. She's got some of it herself and Merlin, too. She's always doted on Merlin. Our union would be good for our houses, but with anyone else, there would also be advantages. He was probably just testing you to see what your reaction would be. I'm certain that if he can't get Merlin locked up with Gilva, he try to get married to her.
"Yep, you still have the touch," he says, watching her work. "It had been rumoured that attuning to the Pattern would block one's ability to use the basic Courts' techniques."

"A marriage to you would be a joyful one." Maeve gives back with a smile.
She pulls the filmsie to her. It is large enough for both of them. "Looks like I have not forgotten how to call them, now the difficult part to get it over to Thelbane."
She hops on to it stabilizes it with her will then she holds out a hand for Despil to join her.
"I think that Gilva would have a lot of influence on Merlin, something that Mandor does not like. And Hendrake seems to be a bit on a downpath with their war against Corwin."

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "You still got the skills," he says when he's on the filmy. "We'd be good as long as the families don't start to interfere. Dara can be a bit much.
"Mandor likes the weakened Hendrakes. He assumes they'll do anything to regain their position, making them pawns in his game. Gambling their pride against their wisdom. If Merlin is a good and long-lasting king, the Hendrakes could be stuck in a lesser position for eons."

"My father said something along that line about his cousin." Maeve gives back.
She gently directs the filmsies towards Thelbane.
"Gilva is headstrong, she will have a great influence on Merlin as his wife, I'm not sure if this would went the way Mandor wants it. Her House will not stay down if she becomes Merlin's Queen, she is too clever for that. And if she gets a son or two by Merlin there is a risk that Merlin becomes expendable."
Maeve carefully watches her surroundings.
"How bad was the fighting for the crown?""

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "Mandor's meddling won't end at the marriage. He will continue to influence her and the rest of Hendrake to keep them in the position he wants. I don't doubt he would tell the warrior house that they are to keep Merlin alive, and an untimely death would mean the annihilation of Hendrakes.
"The fighting was bad. Many hundreds dead, House Ginaz was completely wiped out. Houses Richese and Savin fled into shadow, shattering their Ways behind them. There has been a lull in the killing, giving everyone time to figure out what the line to the throne now looks like and to make new alliances. I expect the assassinations to resume in the next few weeks. The lists are what we should be looking for first. Probably not complete, as some people are still in hiding, but we can see our rank."

Maeve directs the further on the way to Thelbane.
Despil will notice that the next question is hard for her to asks. "What about my father and grandfather?"

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "Alive, as far as I know. The killing was widespread but didn't hit everyone. Sawall has been unaffected; Helgram too. It must be part of some plan, but I can't say what. If the Hendrakes were wiped out to force a marriage between Gilva and Merlin, and my family is safe because of our support for Merlin, then why were the Helgrams untargeted?"

Maeve looks thoughtful for a moment. "I do not know, I would be guessing. Your mother was born to House Helgram. Before your father adopted Merlin he was a Helgram. I wonder what deal House Sawall made with House Helgram to let Merlin go, the intended pawn for the Throne of Amber. Or what deal Dara made with my Grandfather, her uncle, to agree to her marriage to your father."

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "That must have something to do with it. I'm not a fan of all the dealing being done behind closed doors when it results in so much killing. This all may be happening because Merlin wasn't given the throne in Amber. How much would have been different if my mother's plan had succeeded? I have always suspected Jasra was working against Dara while living in our Ways; her dalliance with Brand and, um, the Hellmaidens, makes me think she didn't show the proper amount of fealty to our family."

"I'm no sure if my uncles or aunts would have accepted Merlin as King of Amber, not without a knife at their throat. And even then they might have smiled waited for things to settle down and then removed Merlin."
Maeve smiles at Despil. "Lucky for me it worked not out or I might not have you around."
Maeve lands the filmsie at a short walking distance to the entrance to Thelbane. She waits till Despil has left the flimise and then sends it away.
Together with Despil she walks over the the gates of Thelbane.

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png A funeral procession is leaving Thelbane as they enter. Lady Carloa of Caryx was murdered in the private rooms in her Ways. A shocking death for Carloa was loved by all, yes? "Killed turnings before Dio returned," Despil whispers to her. "If she was recognized or suspected of being back, we might see a new round of assassinations targeting the very people we will want to interview."Once the mourners have left, they are free to enter the vast cathedral, which now consists mostly of robed and cowled monks going about their duties. Some regular people have come to light candles in memory of their lost friends and family.

"Good idea. Before our chance to perishes."
"This also might be the start for the chair next to the throne. If you can not get the throne then try to make one of yours the queen. And since this position does not require to be in line, this fight can turn out to be even more nasty then the fight for the throne."
"Let us sees what information the record hold." Maeve makes her way over to the side where the entrance to the scriptorium, archive and the library is. She has been her before when she did some research about the Logrus.

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png There are a few other lords and ladies of Chaos in the Scriptorium with the same need. Those in pairs whisper to each other about recent deaths and how their position has improved or lessened. Despil leads her over to a stand where a large book is open to page 2398. A few of the names have been crossed out, and a date is scribbled beside them. "Our society is all held together by family and interfamily threads. Somewhere, there must be one string that, when cut, will unravel our whole civilization."

"I hope nobody finds that one thread. Lord Suhuy would be a great loss. I would be a great blow to our society. But only an outsider to the courts would do that. All Houses and their member need him for training for the Logrus." Maeve says in a low voice only for Despil to hear.
Maeve take apiece of paper and a quill and makes notes. She looks at the pages. "What ever they say we need a better system for the succession or a computer to evaluate this." She starts to work her self backwards for some pages to get a feeling where house Sawall and its members and her own House and its members stand in the moment and the what the overall line of succession is in the moment.
Covertly she scan the surrounding and the other Lord and Ladies, if someone is watching her. Who talks with whom.
After going through some pages she goes even further back to the time of the Black Road war. The veneration of the Amberites started after the defeat, Dio was taken to the convent after as infant. She checks the deaths and births and which Houses were destroyed.

#s://i~ibb~co/HtyfnC2/despil~png "True, but I was thinking more of some lord or lady, maybe not even from a great house but related to many and married into a few, whose death would break all the links of kinship and cause war between the Houses. All these assassinations have weakened the fabric of our society. It's easy to assume it is being done to get Merlin on the throne, but what if it is an altogether different plan that was just held back until the confusion of an interregnum allowed it to go into motion? Some say that there is an influence of Amber on the Courts, and once Oberon passed on, then Swayvill was certain to fall. By that logic, Random's death will lead to the end of Merlin."The people at the next book over finish and walk away. Under Maeve's stare, they seem to be acting suspiciously. Despil gets to the volume and flips pages rapidly. "Ulpian? Nah, couldn't be....Kempis? Unlikeley, but maybe....Lorcas? Better not to tell her if it is."OOC: Will get to the succession reply tomorrow.
