Kat is in the dark castle. There is a sound like an eggshell being cracked slowly, and then she is in the dark of a place that feels different from the castle. The eggshell sound is heard again but this time in reverse. She finds herself lying on grey and black sand and gravel in a world all grey and black and white except for a lurid orange light that burns in the sky. She sees the Broken Pattern of Eshanta glowing orange high up, covering half the sky. The cracks in the design where the mirrors had once been placed slowly spread and tear the design apart. The points where the lines of the Pattern were severed spray orange sparks like fireworks. It is gradually turning, breaking apart, and burning itself out. A dull grey circle in the sky must be this place's sun, but its light is feeble.
She is in a valley; low mountains surround an oval area. A small path winds up one mountainous wall.

Kat didn't know exactly what had just happened or why, but she felt that she could take a good guess. The Maze was crying out in pain at Lady Eivor's damage and had summed its Guardian. She'd always meant to come back and repair it, but now it seemed that the urgengy was all the greater that she do so.
She turned towards the Mirror Maze in this wierd Mirror world counterpart of Eshanta and walked quickly towards the Maze, running up the mountainous path when she could and resting when she was exhausted. As she moved her mind churned over the options of things that she would need to do to fix it. She'd kind of expected to be fixing the mirrors on the outside, but how she would be able to do it on the inside she didn't know exactly. Would the same idea apply here? She didn't know until she tried, but she knew that only the original builder of the Maze, Tak and her would be qualified to actually fix this.

This place looks nothing like Eshanta. Reaching the top of the path, she sees a broken, tumbled land with no grass or trees. No other living things at all. A dark silence hangs over this world.

Kat, you're being stupid as usual. She thought to herself.
This is the mirror universe so everything is upside down. She is in the clouds. She ascended the steep path up the side of a cloud and now she is on cloud six. These days, she was never on cloud nine. However, knowing that she was in an upsidown world, she knew the geography of the sky and knew that there would one of the monuments that was close to the Mirror Maze. Knowing the geography and that it was upside down she made her way towards of where these enigmatic structures might be.

There is something of a path through the rock. As she travels, strange fetishes and objects litter the trail. Made of bone and wound tendon, some are warnings not to proceed further, while others are set to welcome the gods. The warnings point behind her, the welcomes forward.

Kat didn't like to claim that she was one of the Gods, particularly given her many failures recently, however that was exactly what others were claiming of her. Of course it may be a trap, but then what did it matter to her any more if it was? Everything that she held dear was either gone or about to be gone. She just hoped that this particular cloud had a silver lining.
So Kat decided to follow the welcome signs, but she wasn't stupid enough not to be cautious and keep her eyes open for any traps.

The trail leads to the base of a large hill or mountain - the geometries of this place become skewed and foreshortened at higher elevations - the hugs the edge of a cliff. Partially covered in scree and the going becomes more difficult. Rounding a curve in the cliff face, she sees a few dozen people prostrate on the ground, their faces in the dust. Men, women and a few children are all dressed in rough furs, and the adults carry weapons made from the bones of some large beast.
"She has come! The great goddess has returned as the prophecy promised. With her sword of justice, she will smite our enemies in the final battle which ends our world," a man chants.
"She is power! She is glory! She is-" he looks up at Kat. "She is...a girl?!"
He is confused. The rest of the people also look up and are equally nonplussed.

I'm sixteen and people still think I'm a girl! No one ever takes me seriously.
"Hello everyone." She says in a friendly manner, neither acknowledging nor dismissing the notion of her Godhood. "I'm here to fix that." She points to the dissolving form of the Mirror Maze in the sky. "That needs to be done first or all will perish, and then we can see about any smiting of enemies. There's one in particular who could do with a lot of smiting if I can find him again, but smiting will need to wait as I'm not much into end of the world scenarios. Actually come to think of it there's several who need smiting, but I may have to smite them one at a time. I'll need to make a list I think, called the Smite List. This is my world and I will not have it dying. Now, does anyone know the best way to get up there?" She points to the Mirror Maze in the sky a serious expression on her face.

"No one has ever been able to reach the great light, the Symbol of the Gods. No creature can travel in the air, that is a lesson from our great book," the CHieftan or High Priest says.
"She isn't the one!" someone calls from the small crowd. The chief waves them to be silent.
"The book tells us it would be an older lady who comes with many arms and spears of lightning yet the dissolution of the Symbol was the herald for the end times."

Kat puts a face on like she's thinking.
"Older I can do, but many arms not so easy." With that she transforms her face into that of Lady Simone. "As to the spear, my sword, Tempest is all I have. Perhaps it is a mistranslation. I'm here to prevent the dissolution of the Symbol as you call it. I will not have an 'End of Times' in my home, so I need to get up there. Do you have any creatures here that can fly?"
Time I learned how Eivor does it.

"Ah, the sword! Said to be able to cleave worlds!
"The only life here are rock-cats; giant long-fanged evil creatures. But tasty."
Kat deduces that the furs the people wear and the bone weapons they carry are from the rock-cats.
"Elder, yes, but still not so young. The stories never tell of a shifting god."

"Sometimes stories miss things out. Sometimes they are wrong, but it is possible that I am not the God your are seeking. I wouldn't want to disappoint you in any way. If I don't fix the thing in the sky, then you'll never get to meet her." Kat replies plainly.
After all its the only thing I seem to be good at is being disappointing. Well that and failing miserably. She thinks to herself miserably.
Who the older many handed Goddess was Kat had no idea, but she decides that at the moment she'd rather not meet her.
"Do you perhaps have a building or structure up here? I can describe it to you." She asked. She describes to them the monument hanging in the sky close to the Mirror Maze.

The people are disappointed by Kat's words.
"There is something much like that here, but the journey is long and difficult. Many rock-cats hunt in those lands and we will need to be ever-vigilant."

Kat sees the disappointment non the people's faces. Yet another example of her being disappointing. Given the pelts and the numbers of followers she was less worried about the rock cats. That name itself was a reflection of the shadow cats on Eshanta.
"The many armed woman might be my mother." She shrugs as she walks.
So might any other woman. It's not like I know who I am. She thinks to herself as she shifts her face back to her own. For now she had no alternative but to get to the monument and see if it somehow could give her access to the Mirror Maze. If only she could fly she would have done so and gone straight up to the Mirror Maze in the sky, but stupidly she hadn't read the form of those Wyvern creatures. Another stupid mistake like not killing Coy on sight. "Tell me more of your legends about the God." She asked as they went to make conversation.
