If it had a power similar to that of the Mirror Maze, then Kat concluded that she needed the help of the Mirror Maze to defeat this thing. Reluctantly she abandoned her position and started treking back to the source of the power here. Back to the Mirror Maze.

It is a long and lonely walk, with only the need for food being a difficulty. She comes to the ravine and the little cave opening is still visible below.

Kat conjures food to keep herself going. Conjured food is not the best, but it does for now. She must be south or north of the canyon that holds the mirror maze and this cave must be a hold out from the scout positions from the war. Before venturing Kat uses a tendril from the Mirror Maze (assuming that it is active now) to see if there is any energy being leeched of the Mirror Maze by this thing. The monstrosity was regenerating, something she knows now that the Mirror Maze can do. What if that thing was somehow leeching off the Mirror Maze as well to keep itself going?
It would still be a short way to the Mirror Maze from here, so Kat decided to rest up in the cave with her conjured food before pressing on.

She can sense the power of the broken Pattern under the mirror maze, but not the maze its self.

So this thing was somehow leeching off the Mirror Maze's regeneration energy and it hadn't come back as a result. Kat knew what she needed to do now. She needed to break the link, whatever that was between the Mirror Maze and this thing that was gobbling up Eschanta.
But first she had to find where the link was and sever it. Having rested up in the cave she headed down the valley to where the Mirror Maze itself was. Whatever the answer, it would likely lie there, though if she had the skills to solve this, she didn't know.

The valley is intact, unlike the last time she saw it during Corwin's wave of destruction. She's walking on broken glass when she reaches the entrance to the Broken Pattern: a black jagged gouge through the glowing pink lines that provide a short cut to centre of the design.

She sighs. Its obvious that Eivor's damage to the Mirror Maze hasn't been repaired, or that it was and someone has come and smashed it again whilst the thing started to leech the regeneration power.
She looks at the area around the maze using the lens of the Broken Pattern, looking for a thread of energy coming off the Mirror Maze and heading for the thing. If she can see it, then she will take out her sword and try and cut it. Tempest has been effective in cutting most things to date, so she hopes that she can somehow cut the link and get the Mirror Maze to start to regenerate itself.

She doesn't see a link to the Tower. It must be pulling its power from somewhere else.

If its not pulling its power from the Mirror Maze, then Kat is perplexed. Clearly she needs to get the Mirror Maze back up and running to help fight this thing. As always now, she is on her own, fighting for her world and that is the way its going to be.
She begins conjuring the tools that she needs to start repairing the Mirror Maze and then sets about recasting the broken mirrors as she remembers them. It is not going to be a short job, but she at least needs to get part of it back up and running so that it can link back into its regeneration capabilities. She starts to sing old songs from Eschanta as she works to keep her spirits up and prevent herself from crying at what has become of her world. She tries to reuse as much of the original glass as she can as she knows that Mirrors are powerful and hold valuable memories, but the new glass that she crafts with it will link her into those threads.
Dangerous? Probably, but she is past being cautious.

It will be a long job. Made even longer since she didn't build the original one and might not understand how it was crafted.

Its not like she has anything better to do and although she didn't craft the original, she has walked it and does have an image in her mind. Plus she has built mirrors all throughout her chiidhood and has the shifting power that helps her regenrate her body. This she hopes she can imbue in the new Mirror Maze through the addition of a little of her own blood.
She has no need of food as she can conjure this for herself. The task is the task and she hopes that with some of the Maze built she might be able to get it to connect to its higher self to start to regenerate itself again.

She has a plan. She gets to work...

Kat continues to work, resting periodically to eat and sometimes sleep. Sometimes she cries herself to sleep at the loss of her homeland. Sometimes she hums determinedly to herself, remembering all those that she has lost.
