"If Bayle is your sworn enemy why do you keep buying from him?" Eivor inquires, wondering how this dysfunctional couple makes it through the day. "I will certainly talk with Rinaldo, but in what capacity? Would you like me to speak up for Begma? Perhaps we should be importing wine for them instead of keeping Bayle in business?"

"Bah, they have a near monopoly on wine and spirits in Amber. The others who manage to compete with him sell only foul stuff. I swear they have their own fleet of corsairs who disrupt other's shipments on the seas. And they have their greedy hands in the castle to be sure; why else would Vinta have been so close to Prince Caine and then upon his death sidle up to Lord Merlin? Oh yes, the Baron has his daughter working hard for royal favour.
"Bayle already has his fingers in the Begman lands, but Kashfa is a new, nearly untouched place. If you could speak with Rinaldo and convince him to shut out the Bayles and support the other families, why, wouldn't that be better, to have a dozen houses in agreement rather than a flock of vultures?"

"Yes, that does sound interesting, and I'm sure King Rinaldo will recognise a good business opportunity," Eivor says. "You've given me plenty to think upon, but I shall call again later today to work with Lady Simone, if I may. I'll keep you informed of any developments regarding Kashfa."
Unless Lord Rein has more to add, she will take her leave and find a secluded spot outside the estate to try Kat's trump.

"If the lady is agreeable I will send a letter to the castle," Rein says.
A place outside is found and Eivor now needs to wait until Kat responds.
