"So what if he does? You have nothing to be ashamed of, it's not your fault," Eivor replies. "I can help you. I'll let you gather your thoughts then come meet me at the Golden Feather. Don't leave it too long though, or I'll be back."
Eivor then takes her leave (assuming Simone doesn't object) and takes up a position watching the gate in case she does something rash. If nothing occurs for an hour, she goes to the assignation point (an up-market hostelry with booths) to wait and works on her sketches.

Eivor can't help but notice the odd stares she gets as she walks through the city. Even in the bar the patrons give her the side-eye.
Simone arrives a bit later than the scheduled time. Wearing a fine dress and trenchant, wide brimmed hat with veil partially coveringbher face. Eivor can tell she has been drinking from the slackness in her stride.
Coming to the table she signals the bartender for a double bourbon and downs it in one gulp. Orders a second and nurses it by finishing it in two gulps. A third is ordered before she speaks.
"Damn you. It's all over now. No way Rein won't figure out what's up. Your coming to the house and now this."
She pulls a newspaper out of her purse. The Dockside Dangler. Front page is a story and photographs of 'Eivor' at the Golden Sands destroying the traditions of the place, ruining the lives of many noble families, and rumours of using ESP to steal memeories of the guests and physically abusing the staff. Management will be sending a letter of reprimand to Princess Flora.
Most disconcerting is how quickly this was put together. Eivor only left the place the day before so how did this all get reported and printed in some technological shadow then delivered to Amber in time for the morning rush?
"He can put two and two together."

Eivor is not just surprised by the speed of the new travelling but by Kat's indiscretion. Still, she would learn and the Dangler was hardly the most reputable source for news.
"It obviously wasn't me in Golden Sands. As for my meeting you, say you commissioned me to paint your portrait for the ball. What better gift for your husband than you framed in oils?"
"That aside, we need to talk about what happened before. This man is a master manipulator of not just those he is close to but crowds of people. What he did elsewhere is reprehensible, but what he did in Amber is treason. I need to find him, and I think you might be my last lead."

#s://i~ibb~co/D8BH7VM/Lana-Budding-Milford~jpg "Our family isn't from Amber so it wouldn't be treason," she says distractedly while waiting for the waiter to return. Another drink comes, goes down, and a replacement is ordered. "We all know how fast you people can move about when you want to; you won't be able to talk your way out of being at the resort yesterday then here today. And impersonating me? Then coincidentally coming by the mansion to see me? Rein is smart and has contacts so he will know what's up in a few days and the other families will too.
"He's already an outcast in the clique due to his closeness to Corwin and Random and now his wife will be condemned as an accomplice to Coy's crimes.
"I came here to get away from him but I can't escape, can I?"Her eyes well up. The drinks are hitting her hard, even if she is someone conditioned to daily drinking.

"You realise Coy isn't your brother?" Eivor says. "He's probably not from Deiga either, but used your family and position as a jumping board for his plots against the Crown. If not treason then regicide, insurrection, name your crime he's likely committed it."
"Your only escape is to help me find him," she continues. "I can smooth things over with your husband, but it may be best you lay low for a while as Coy may attempt to influence you again. I think you've had enough to drink, you're going to need your wits about you."

She takes another drink anyway, against Eivor's advice.
"I know he can influence minds. He would mock those he affected and brag to me about what he had done but he never tried any of those tricks on me. 'Saving them for other fools' he'd say.
"And he is my brother. Everyone knows it, to me and my family's shame. Grew up with him as my older brother and the records in Deiga prove it."
Eivor begins to feel the mental buzz of someone trying to contact her via Trump.

Eivor is about to argue when she feels the contact. "A moment, please." She says, leafing quickly through her tarot to identify the caller. Assuming it is who she expects, she accepts the call.

It is not from someone she expects and it is someone she does not have a card for.

In which case Eivor blocks the call.
"Records can be falsified, memories tampered with. Would you like me to escort you back to your residence, or should I call a carriage?"

And then almost immediately another Trump connection begins to buzz in Eivor's mind.

Eivor frowns. Like mountain squalls, never alone. "Another? One moment please."
She attempt to identify this caller, and if it not in her deck she will again block.

Simone stares at Eivor bemused. It is unusual to see someone begin a game of solitare mid conversation.
Eivor recognizes that the 'call' is from Kat.

Kat looks like Lady Simone in the bathroom of apartment that they were staying in.
Lady Eivor could you transport me through the magic card urgently? I might have tried to push things too far when looking for evidence. Kat whispers urgently.

"I know," Eivor replies. She extends a hand. "Grab hold and come through."
