For a moment, a doubt assails his mind as these strange and unknown memories come to the surface. That, and the unusual pink glow of the Pattern. But Dorian rejects these thoughts violently. *Focus on the path. Focus on your target.* Dorian is tapping into his resources and speeding up. Sparks fly all around him, right up to his eyes. He mechanically plunges his hand into his jacket pocket, placing his fingers on the Trump card. One more step.

The pressure like an immense weight presses down on Dorian as he pushes through to the end of the Pattern. It is a resistance greater than what he felt the first time he tried the walk. But he does prevail and finds himself alone, panting, at the centre of the mandala design.

Dorian, a little hagard, casts a circular glance at the Pattern room, in search of the assaillants and a second wind. He can’t believe he’s alone after all the energy he’s put into the walk. He probably broke his personal record in the process.
Dorian recalls the reason he intended to walk the Pattern at first. When Brand was trapped in his tower, the elders tried to contact him. Facing terrible resistance, they cleverly joined their will and Psychic capabilities to force contact. That’s what Dorian intended to simulate. And what’s a better ally and energy pool than the Pattern to do so?
Dorian pulls up the Trump card form his pocket. He focuses deeply on the picture and the sensation of cold, gathering all the power of the Pattern he just walked to overcome the resistance, and either force the contact or port himself to his target’s location. When he feels the Trump vibrating and the door about to open, he throws his last strength into the battle. Releasing all his psychic energy by throwing the Word «ZZAAQ!», Dorian opens his eyes on Gerard’s picture, smiling, his horn hanging around his neck.

Even with all the energy Dorian is expending he is unable to make contact with Gerard. From his knowledge and experience with the cards, he realizes his father must be dead, or perhaps, in a catatonic state so deep that there is no consciousness to connect with.

Dorian's tired features light up when he sees the image of Benedict come alive. He releases all his information in a rapid and confused flow, happy to be able to share the turmoil of the latest events with a friendly face.
"Uncle Benedict! Finally. I thought the whole family was gone. Except Flora and Dworkin. He sent me here. The unusual place you mentioned. I don't know how, but he knew. I tried to stop her, that's why I went to the Pattern room. But she had time to walk the Pattern before I could catch with her. She'd already killed four guards by the time I got down. Probably with the help of the man. The explosion at the castle must have been a diversion. And I can't establish a Trump contact with Father. So, maybe you can give me a hand?"
Dorian extends his arm to Benedict.
