The chanting sounds like it is coming from all sides, and moving isn't changing the volume.
They see Colwyn ordering the sailors to one of the mostly intact pyramids to make their last stand. Col and his soldiers remain inside their barracks walls.

After circling Dio stands still. The chanting, now she is focussing on it, seems to fill her mind.
She whispers to her friends.
"The chanting. It's everywhere... don't you hear it? Or is it only in my mind?"
She sounds worried

It is still unnoticeable to her friends.

Maeve shake her head. " I can not hear anything. It must be directed at you."
Seeing that Colwyn considers the attack close at hand. "We should take a bit more cover."
Maeve leads her friend to the sailors.
[OOC waiting for the attack.]

The time comes. The natives pour out from the jungle in their hundreds and hundreds. Colwyn's soldiers constructed some traps and hidden pits at the city's edge, delaying the onslaught for only a few seconds.
It is a credit to Amber's military academies that Colwyn was correct when he said (multiple times) that the battle can't be won; it can't even be survived.

Dirk turns and growls towards his crew to prompt those in the know to get his crew to follow his orders.

Dio looks to Dirk and Maeve, seeing their reactions and seeing it is indeed a lost cause she nods
"We move now then. May i suggest a fast escape could be the smudge? it could be a portal or passage way. "

They find that about a quarter of the sailors have fled the battle. They are probably hiding out in the city somewhere.
They hear the surge of the attackers behind them. Of Colwyn and his soldiers, they know nothing.
It is slow going trying to work through all the overgrown ruins, but they make it to the smudge with mere minutes until the attackers arrive. Through the dark haze, they see more of the statues of Deirdre and Brand arranged in a wide circle about something black. It appears to be a portion of a gigantic buried sphere. About 20 meters in diameter and 2 meters tall*, like a vast black marble set in stone. Dim rainbow-like swirls of colour move about the surface, like oil on a puddle. The trio feel the power from the thing, their bodies being subtly warped by involuntary shape-shifting.
* Don't make me run the math to calculate the correct sizes unless I get bored at work tonight.

Dio tilts her head looking at the odd smudge and appearance of the thing she then makes a start to move towarss the smudge. Still trying to stay close or jn contact with her friends.
When closer or through the smudge she tries to hear if the chanting is still present.
