"It wasn't your steps that were directed," Eivor points out. "I recently met someone in Shadow called Julia. She mentioned a keep, and was clearly someone of who knew power. She and Jurt were from Chaos and transported themselves using a method I'd not witnessed before; grey mist rose from the ground, bands of red light began to swirl within, then they were gone."
"Does that sound familiar?"
While she talks, Eivor continues to clean the ring, carefully wiping away the years of grime.
"It would be good to know that if they have discovered the keep, they have not attempted to subvert the Horns as well."

"Perhaps we should start at the beginning - where you wanted to start - rather than be influenced by what others are doing. When you started out you must have had a goal; not just refurbishing what is here, but making new discoveries," Eivor says, wishing she had the tools to make a calming brew.

#s://i~ibb~co/QQq3fVm/dworkinmaybe1~jpg He calms down a little bit. "It was all new then. Travel was difficult. It was almost impossible to return to a place once you left it. This and others like it were created to let us see what we once saw, witness from a distance what was once observed up close. A very helpful device back in the early centuries.
"Maybe you want the Lonely Keep of the Forgotten Moors?"

"No, I think I should return to the Horns of Anubis. That's where we should start," Eivor replies. "Can you show me?"

#s://i~ibb~co/QQq3fVm/dworkinmaybe1~jpg "Horns of Anubis...Horns of Anubis.." He mutters over and over as he swings the device about, adjusts the angle and looks into the cloudy sky. More pressing of buttons, twisting of knobs, turning of dials - a stop while he climbs under the think to make some hasty repairs - and then it looks ready to work. He looks into the eyepiece and makes a few small adjustments to the focus, then stands back to let Eivor look. "That spell you mentioned earlier is probably just a standard teleportation spell. The fashion nowadays is to gussy your spells up with colourful effects when casting. Turning into carnival stage magic.." he continues on with a muttered speech about kids these days and their ostentatious spellcraft, then continues about their ostentatious clothes, then footwear choices, music (if it can even be called that), and on and on.

Eivor makes sympathetic noises about the state of youth and spellcraft then steps up look though the lens.

#s://i~ibb~co/QQq3fVm/dworkinmaybe1~jpg She sees n arid rocky hill rising from an arid, rocky plain. Small bushes dot the land. A wide, ornate stone staircase climbs straight up the hill, stopping only for a few landings. It stops at a jackal-shaped temple built on the crest of the hill. On either side, large spires of rock climb straight into the sky. They do look horn-like. From this distance, the people look like ants in white or red robes climbing up and down the stairs. Those heading up bring kindling and offerings; those heading down carry charred bones. "It's been really built up since the olden days. Those people must have moved in."

"If it's a place of power I wouldn't expect it to be abandoned indefinitely," Eivor replies. "The question is who has built it up and why? You implied we could do more than just view the scene - would you like to try out some of the observatory's other functions?"

#s://i~ibb~co/QQq3fVm/dworkinmaybe1~jpg "But the risk! We don't know who's there. If we contact them, then they can sense us, learn of us, influence us."Reminding himself of being influenced again sets him off stamping about and muttering. His height begins to diminish again, and he becoming paunchy.

"Ah, so the viewer works both ways. Yes I see we must be careful," Eivor agrees, taking in the details of the scene and making note for future reference. "What other secrets lie here among the rings? Let me help you clean a few more," she offers, stepping away from the instrument and looking for other rings that need attention.

#s://i~ibb~co/QQq3fVm/dworkinmaybe1~jpg While Eivor searches and cleans, the man clicks the ring like a View-Master in the device to look into other places. "That one's gone, of course. The Dancing Mountains weren't so energetic back in those days. Ah, the Ruby Throne! Still there, still unoccupied, still dusty. Keep of the Four Worlds...interesting that it is still there! Someone must have found a way to balance the forces. The Great Shell is still there but much more cracked. Poor conch."He continues on this way for some time until Eivor has another ring ready for him. "Eh, you want to see more? Unusual! My experience with youth is that they always run about tugging on old men's beards and have no time for honest work and instruction. Well, maybe not all children."

"It's fair to say I'm not like most," Eivor concedes. "All these places must have once been active, or there would have been no need to mark their presence on the rings. Things must have been so different then! Are there no journals recording previous observations? Surely part of the work here is to record the ebb and flow of these structures over time?"

"We were quite busy in those days," he says, slightly ashamed. "Oberon was always finding wars to fight or sending his sons off to wars. This was just something he used to spy on places of interest to see if they needed some invading or retuning. And there was all this 'Paint him. Paint her." commands that kept me quite busy for years."

"At least now you must get less of that," Eivor says sympathetically, "but if we are to revive this place, we will have to keep records. There have been great storms sweeping Amber and Shadow, and it's important we track their progress."
"For now, I think I will give you a little time to yourself. I need to get some materials and staff to assist us. How are you for provisions? Do you need me to fetch you anything?"
