Cody sneezes as he climbs a rickety ladder in the Seminary Library Stacks.
Dust
Dust
More Dust
It's the long lost and forgotten scrolls that Cody finds most interesting.
Well... Not always interesting. But sometimes there's a treasure hidden amongst the mundane scratchings of long forgotten scribes.
The older the writings, the more interesting. Things that speak of the times before the Courts. Or about the beginnings of the Courts. Especially anything pertaining to Cody's particular fetish: Lilith. The Mother of all. The Grand Matriarch.

Cody reaches up and up and there, right there it should be. He sees there is a place where there is no dust ... and no scroll.
When he looks around he sees a young slender human looking woman some shelves further away balancing graciously several books and scrolls holding a book list and searching for more books.

Way up on the top shelf Cody is surprised to find a gap in what is considered a dead file. Old parchments that haven't seen light in centuries. The sort of thing Cody desires. Looking down the aisle he sees an unfamiliar face. It's unusual to see someone not of the cloth unless it's a monor demon fetching for their master. "Hello Bibliophile. I don't usually find any civilians back here in the stacks. What treasures are you seeking, if I may ask?"

The woman stops checking the books titles at the shelf and turn to Cody. "Hello there." She is clearly no nun or aspiring priestess, from her clothing, rich, most likely nobility.
"I'm looking for writings tagged with Beginning, Creation, Origin." She polity answers Cody's question.

Cody is in a clean and pressed Monks Habit. It's not new but it is well mended. Long, thick black hair tied in a man-bun. Hazel eyes. "A proper scholar. Pulling the obscure source documents instead of relying on derivative modern texts."
Then he makes sounds as though he is chewing broken glass and choking on splintered bones, "¥~♡♤●♤●♡•♤>×>%:& kdie,*#>#:^^;^ ♡○♡¤¤♡ >3<<#^÷&<÷$< ijsv $%%^&&&%`" *I'm fluent in Old Demon, if you need help translating.*

"Thank you that is very courteous" Maeve replies. "So far I have not picked any of the writing in Demon, I 'm still working on it that there are no articles and that the Genera and Numeri specifics are to be derived from the different ending of the verbs and that there 10 different Genera, with one of them reserved for the Serpent alone."
"Most of the writing I have are in Old Thari."
"MotherFather of all. I think it is about the Serpent. A lengthy poem in poetic meter."
"Lilith, Myth or Reality by D. Bariman. One of the newer books just 4 millenia old. But already in New Thari."
"Lilith an allegory of the Serpent."
"Differential m-dimensional non-discret Topology of the Logrus. Axioms and Theses to explain the Origin of the Logrus."
"Linearity of Shadow - Beginnings and Endings."
"Creation - Explained at the examples of affine m-Manifolds."
"Logrus for Dummies. That is also in New Thari. Wishing I had that before I traversed the Logrus. I will ask the scribe demon for a copy." Cody sees a book with a yellow black cover that looks very new.
[OCC I think they speak Thari also in the Courts. If no I have to replace that with the right language of the Courts.]

<OOC> Yes, I believe that Thari is the universal language. IIRC in the GoA someone comments on Corwin's accent. He flubs and says it's German. I always think of it as a 'Euro-Trash' accent like Frank (Martin Short) in 'Father of the Bride'.
A mix of German/French etc... </OOC>
"Oh, wow! My knowledge of Demon isn't so technical. It's more conversational - colloquial."
Cody comes down the ladder and takes a look at the stack of books and documents the young lady is carrying.
"Very impressive collection."
Cody bows his head and tips his hand. "Cody D'Avalon, at your service."
"I wouldn't put much stock in that Barimen piece. It disagrees with just about everything else ever written. I have a pet theory about it."
"Hm. I should probably get a copy of that Logrus book myself. "

"I admire that you can pronounce it so effortless. I have stopped trying. I can follow it passably but the last time I asked for a glass of water, one of the House Demons brought me a living scaled rabbit and now I have a pet."
"I'm Maeve of House Helgram." Maeve greets him.
"I would like to hear your theories about Barimen's books."
"I find his writing is always controversial but he has interesting ideas. Have you read 'Order in Chaos'? I like the part of the m-dimensial Mandelbrot-Set representations as approximation of Shadow variance."
"If you want to get a slight understanding about the Kingdom at other end of reality 'Static 2-dimensional Lorgus - An essay about possible usages' is a must. The book is hard to find. Most copies have been burned. If there is a copy here in the Library than it will be behind this wall there." Maeve points to a section of the wall of the Library. Cody knows behind this wall is the Hall of Forbidden Tomes. Only with explicit permission of either Lord Suhuy or Highpriest Bances someone can enter.
"Yes definitely get yourself a copy of 'Logrus for Dummies'. I know, they recommend to read 'Logrus Basics 1&2' and 'Beginner Guide to Logrus 1-3'. But Basics is weak in the more complex topics and 'Beginner's Guide' is very vague at the basics and goes straight to the more complex topics assuming you already know the basics."
"Be warned, do not follow the introductions in 'Logrus Basics' for using Logrus Tendrils for traveling. Someone ended up in a tar pit, another one in quicksand, a further one in a blizzard and I in a lake full of whirlpools"
"Regrettable if you want to pass the LUC (Logrus User Certificate) you have to make the cross exactly at text passage as written in 'Logrus Basics'.

"Hello Maeve Helgram, so glad to make your acquaintance. I'll let you in on a little secret. Though, if you told anyone else they likely wouldn't believe it. Or if they're a Demon, they might deny it.Cody give a wink and then begins to gurgle and coo like a baby. Making nonsense noises and little giggles. "Infant Demon. Much like Human infant. Except, I just recited a dirty limerick. Infant Demons are verbal and fully able to communicate. It's not until they develop and learn to control some level of ShapeShifting that they begin to speak the mature language. It requires growing a second larynx" Cody taps his sternum, "further down. You need to ShapeShift to really be able to speak the language properly. There's also some aspects of the language that are inaudible within normal human hearing. So, some ShapeShifting of the auditory system is required too. Sub-sonic stuff."
"When some Demons took me in, they started babbling like babies in front of me. I was amused, and confused. Until I began to understand. They didn't speak Thari at the time, and I didn't speak Demon. I learned their language like a child does, and I was able to teach them mine. When a friend taught me how to ShapeShift, I was finally able to get the fullness of the language. I didn't start to read Demon, other than basic stuff like road signs or menus, until I came to Seminary."

"Ascertaining the overall shape of the Multiverse has challenged scholars since forever. It doesn't help when it can't be pinned down and studied because it keeps changing. Even at the other end. Which their end will deny."
"Is it linear? Too simple to just have Amber and the Courts at either end of a big stick."
"A sphere with two poles?"
"A bubbly, foamy mass?"
"What about Shadow? Are they layers upon layers to be peeled back like an onion?"
"And the Abyss. It spits everything out and sucks it all back in again. It touches everything."
"Anyway... I'm rambling. But I have my own theories about that too. Probably get them locked up in the forbidden zone if I wrote them all down."
Cody takes a breath.
"All of the Logrus stuff is interesting. It shows some of the powers available and how to use them, but they're more theoretical than practical in my specific case. But that's a different story."
Cody lowers his voice to a more conspirial tone. "It's like Dworkin is laying a trail of breadcrumbs to follow in a totally different direction from the truth about Lilith."

Maeve laughs at the prospect of Cody's future writtings going straight to the forbidden zone.
"You should publish at the block city of Heerat. I have heard they have a great library and that they do not care about order or chaos and what one side considers Heresy."
"Maybe Amber, the Courts and Shadow are a kind of 4 dimensinal Klein Bottle, with Amber and the Courts beeing 2 gravity points with maximal distance to each other."
Maeve look interested to hear his further theories about Lilith. "How about we go into the cloister garth. I will stash my book in a basket so the are not put back into the shelves or disappear into the forbidden zone. There are far less people in the cloister garth. Then you can tell my about your research on Lilith."

Cody walks with Maeve to the courtyard. "Yes, a Klein Bottle, but the gravity points are closer than you would think. I'd started with the simple idea of a sphere with the two poles, or even two intersecting spheres. Then, the poles collapse into each other forming a toroid. Adding the twist of the Klein Bottle is a genius extrapolation of that line of thought."
"By all accounts, Dworkin and the Unicorn were pursued by all the combined forces of Chaos. There's no way they would have outrun them. They'd be caught. There's no way they could outrun such an angry mob. They would have had a plan and a place to stand their ground. The Unicorn defending while Dworkin inscribed the Pattern. So, just another chunk of rock, right here on the edge of the Abyss."
"On the completion, the Pattern exploded with billions of new Shadows creating a shield around itself."
"I know, it sounds insane. But, think about it... The Black Road pierced through all those layers of Shadow and allowed access directly from the Courts to Amber. Allowing passage in a fraction of the time it takes for even the fastest hell ride."
"Even moving at the slow pace of a funeral procession, it didn't take very long to walk the Black Road back from Amber to the Courts."
"If you were able to cut through the fog of Shadows, you'd see that there's just the one singularity."
"Maybe, the Pattern is actually a single tendril of the Logrus. Dworkin stretched it out and coiled up the end of it into the Pattern. The Black Road is the part of the tendril that stretches from the Pattern back to the Logrus. It's hidden in the fog of Shadow, but was exposed during the Pattern Fall War."
"It would explain the Pattern's ability to deposit you anywhere in Shadow when you essay it."
"That would also help explain the phenomena of Trumps. A power that cuts through all the Shadows. We're all angels dancing on the head of a single pin. Yet separated by x to the power of infinity Shadows..."
Strolling laps around the courtyard while hypothesizing the shape and size of the Multiverse, Maeve and Cody come to an ornately carved twisted Serpent of jade forming a bench. The Serpent is nibbling on it's own tail.
"Ah, the Sheltering Coils." Cody smiles as he gestures for Maeve to sit.
Shifting gears, Cody speaks on the subject of Lilith. "To start with, I'll speak of our scriptures:"
"Pretty straight forward, right?"
"But, what happened to Lilith? There was Lilith and the Serpent, and then she just disappeared when Dworkin came along? ... Or???"
Cody leaves a long pregnant pause.
Then, Cody whispers, "What if Lilith is the Unicorn?"

"Maybe the pattern in the Jewel of Judgment is a 3-dimensional Trump-powerd picture of the Logrus fozen in time. And each pattern drawn by with the Jewel is a 2-dimensional Trump-powered picture of what is in the Jewel."
Maeve ponders for a moment and whispers back "A daring thesis. The serpent gives matter and Lilith giving form. And when the Serpent no treating her as equal ..."
In an equal low voice she says. "There are texts that claim that in the beginning the Serpent and the Unicorn created ALL as partners. But that the Serpent claimed all Power for itself."
"You know that in the newer text there is no mentioning of Lilith at all, but It is written that the Serpent laid eggs all on its own and that the first Lords and Ladies hatched from these eggs."

Cody nods, "Very interesting. I'm not sure if or how Trump factors into things. Whether Logrus and/or Pattern power Trump or if Trump is a separate power altogether."
"They say that the Jewel is one of the Serpent's eyes but you never see any depiction of the Serpent with a missing eye. So I'll give credence to your theory that it is a Trump device."
"Then I'll go a little further... In theory, anyone and everyone can essay the Logrus. Assuming you are fit enough to survive. Yet: Only one of Dworkin's blood can essay the Pattern."
"The Logrus shapes you, as you shape it, and each person's passage is unique."
"What if: The Jewel is a recording device that copied Dworkin's passage through the Logrus? Then, only he and anyone closely related through his bloodline, could make that specific passage."
"That then brings up another issue: How many generations will the Pattern allow before Dworkin's blood becomes too diluted to be able to use that device? Each passing generation will have a more and more difficult time essaying the Pattern until the n'th generation that won't be able to."
"I mean... We see the same thing happening here in Chaos. All of Lilith's children were able to essay the Logrus, but several generations down and it has become more difficult. Politics aside, maybe it is a good idea to restrict access to the Logrus, else the asylums will be bursting at the seams with those who fail."
"If Lilith is the Unicorn, it is little wonder that she would be written out of the texts. It also explains how a Matriarchy got flipped to a Patriarchy. Except for that parthenogenesis part."
"It also begs the question of 'Which came first, the Serpent or the Egg?'" Cody laughs at his own joke.

Maeve laughs again. "The chicken - egg problem, just as Serpent - egg."
"But it is a good question, what was before, what was first."
"I mean all we have are semi-religious texts that have been written by people. None of them was of course present in the beginning or before the beginning. So all claim the Serpent told them. I never had the honor to meet the Serpent and probably will never met. How does the Serpent communicate. Or the Unicorn."
"So all that is written in the texts is already an interpretation."
