"Tale of a far of Place."
Maeve starts to narrate and will continue her tale over the course of the dinner.
"Some time ago I decided to do some studies in Biology and looked for a nice Shadow with a good University. The place I reached was somewhere were Order and Chaos are in balance, so a good deal away from Amber. A place with a decent amount of technology."
And Maeve includes a description of the shadow and the university, her professor and fellow students.
"Of course you think what can happen when you do studies in Biology at a University. Maybe it should have been an indicator that this University had the title >University of applied Science<.
First semester was accompanied be field studies of >Behaviour patterns of prey<. That does sound fairly harmless. And the equipment list gave no indication of danger. But better to be safe than sorry I told myself and packed a fire weapon.
Our little group of students was dropped off somewhere in the nowhere, near a nice waterhole. It did no matter that I told my fellow students that camping near the water hole would not be such a great idea.
They insisted that the water was so conveniently nearby and all these nice animals would come there waterhole and we could observe them.
I do have to say that sometime tech people lack a certain understanding of survival.
I decided that for the nights a nice fence of spiky thorn bushes around my tent would be a decent idea. Most of my my fellow student considered it to be paranoid.
It seemed to have escaped the attention of my fellow students that where ever there is prey there are predators. These predators are called karologs, they are hunting in a pride, look like oversized crosses between cats and dogs, with sharp claws and teeth. The karologs had figured out from past experience that humans are far mores easier to stalk than their usually itchy grazer prey.
So in the middle of our third night a karolog pride paid our camp a visit, I woke up to the sound of a lot of running, screaming and panic.
Let’s say, a quickly relit fire and shot alpha karlog told the pride, that this time grazers were the more harmless prey. And I learned from the park rangers who came to our rescue, that it is okay when some students got eaten on a field trip, but that is not okay to kill a karolog, especially since we were doing studies of >Bahaviour patterns of prey< in a nature reserve."
Again Maeve adds descirptions of the location and participants.
"Topic for the field studies for second semester was >Behaviour patterns of predators<.
I added a nice shock stick and a good load of tranquilizer darts to my equipment pack on top of the fire weapon.
And all went well, there was no camping at the water hole, instead ther was a good solid thorn bush wall, a fire burning through the night with a night watch. And our students group got a decent study time of the karolags from a safe distance.
Ever heard about the say >There is always a bigger fish.<
There is always a more nastier predator.
Imagine something that looks like a cross between a grizzly bear and cougar, it goes by the name fremor. A fremor is lazy, it prefers to get the prey of other predator. And my fellow students were lucky, it spotted the pride of karologs and their food first and not my fellow students picknick, outside the camp while the were watching the karologs."
Maeve describes the botanic gardens of the University in some detail.
"For the third semester I decided to do something harmless, some studies in botany and the University had some really nice gardens and greenhouses.
The pride of the University was a larger group of a plant called Silver Bloomers, a plant that produces a fruit every 7 years. This fruit is surrounded by very colorful leaves and produces a sweet fragrance.
Now in this semester the Silver Bloomers were about to bloom. And four weeks before the date our Professor decided that we need to watch this event in the natural surrounding of the Silver Bloomers.
The natural surrounding is a mountain side rain forest. Three weeks away from any civilisation across the jungle, through rivers and swamps and of course for teaching purpose, we have to take this route by foot and not use any modern vehicle which could take us there in mere hours.
I do love insect repellents and salves against plant burnings.
Finally, we arrived there in time and placed our observation equipment.
The Blooming is spectacular. The leaves around the fruit shimmer in the colors of the rainbow with a silvery touch and the fragrance is breath taking, sweet with a note a cinnamon.
And suddenly a great Nightstalker Stag crashed tough the underwood, darkblue fur with green stripes, no antlers but a pair of saber tooth, wrist height 5 feet.
So this stug rushed to the Silver Bloomer fruit and munched it down before our eyes.
And our Professor went mad, attacked the stag with his bare fists and got trampled down by stag, which ten rushed off to a nearby herd of does.
The interesting point is, Nightstalker Stags are nearly never in the mood to do their job. And right there this stag was making sure for the next generation to come.
To make a long story short, our Professor somehow had found out that the fruits of the Silver Bloomer, were some kind aphrodisia and had intended to sell it on the black market. And to cover this up, because the pant was protected, he dragged his student through the jungle.
And best things last, Silver Bloomer fruits only work on Nightstalker deers, they have a kind of symbiotic relationship."
Again Maeve describes the location and the interior of a cave, the surroundings and some new fellow students and her new Professor.
"I gave it a last try being so near to my BAC and picked the third kingdom as main topic for my last semester. What can go wrong with mushrooms.
Unless your Professor decides to do the field studies in a cave system, shortly befor the rain season.
During the following cave diving and swimming I and my fellow student were able to do some nice research on all kind of cave fishes, but regrettably not on mushrooms.
When I finally got my BAC I decided to continue my Biology studies in a different Shadow on a University without applied science but with a lot of boring books."
