Hi all, I guess the GM is super busy with life and work stuff right now so I figured I'd make a post/thread so we can chat until the story starts up again.
So how is everyone doing? Also, what other (if any) tabletop RPG's are you playing or have played in the past? Also, I gather lots of you know each other form other Amber online games. This is my first one, so I don't know much or anything about the others, but are you still playing in some of them? How are they? Do you use the same character in all of them (or very similar characters) or do you have different ones for each?
I've always been a big fan to the HERO System, they make Champions and Fantasy Hero and other games like that. It is a universal system that can be adapted to any genre. Lots of people find it too crunchy, but I love how detailed you can make the characters with it. I'm also a big fan of Shadowrun, I haven't played it for years, not since 4th edition (I think they are on 6th now) but I love keeping up-to-date on the meta storyline of the universe and setting.
How about you guys?

Last time the GM said he had major PC issues perhaps that is again the issue. Lets hope he returns soon to us.
And how i'm doing, decent. busy, started new education lots of work lots of homework. Thankfully i have play by post games to keep myself occupied with fun stuff.
I have one Tabletop game with friends once in the two months that is traveller. loads of fun as well. i love the horror, i love sci fi. and i love as little dice and math in a game as possible. hehehe.
So Amber Diceless RPG is a big one for me. Traveller Gmed story bound instead of stat bound.
Though most of the times i do not mind the system it matters the setting and the game.

I'm doing okay too, though work is really busy at the moment because everyone else is on holiday and I'm covering for them.
Hammett - you really should join the discord channel. All the other players are on there and you miss out on all the chat and nonsense there.
Currently I'm running a monthly game based on His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman and using Gensys RPG. I've run many other systems and settings over the years including Airship Pirates RPG, GURPS, Runequest (in all its various forms), Call of the Cthullu, Top Secret, and many, many more (including my own made up systems). I think I've been roleplaying since I was 13 and I'm now 54. I even played D&D and Tunnels and Trolls a few times.
I know a few players from Kevin's (and Alans) old game (now sadly ended). I've been in a number of games over the years which always seem to end too quickly and I'm just now finishing my own online game (after 11 years).

We should get Kevin in here. He's on the Discord server but never posts and I think he joined the forum too.

I've talked about this before (somewhere), but here goes again...
I got started collecting the D&D books (and magazines) about six months before the 2e came out. I've played the 2e off and on until about 2010-2012... multi-generational games early-on, short campaigns toward the end (different groups). The longest running character was an elven mage/rogue (with swashbuckler kit) that had just made levels 10/11. The most unusual character was a half-ogre warrior (level 6, nicknamed Blockhead because of masonry skills) in a family of half-elf mages. My brother finally got me to play in a 5e game on discord until work interfered...
I've played short bouts of Runequest (1e), Champions, GURPS, Traveler and Mega Traveler, Paranoia (didn't like), and Marvel Super Heroes (played separately a robot/enchanted-golem with hyper-knowledge, and an alien centaur that gave Loki a red Shift-X neural blast), and other games I've no doubt forgotten about.
I've played White Wolf's Mage (a 'Harry Dresden'-esque character) and Vampire (both Modern and Victorian-era), and read enough to know I had no interest in the Werewolf line...
And, of course, numerous Amber games. A few examples - Adam, an angelic son of Flora with limited shape-shifting; Ethan, a mildly hostile son of Corwin from Avalon; Vivian, a trump-wielding steam-punk daughter of Bleys; Katherine, a daughter of Eric from a Golden Circle kingdom; Selene, a Chaosian daughter of Brand, maker of blood-trumps; Nimue, a Chaosian daughter of Martin in 'By Design', ending as the Queen of the Halcyon after the destruction of Rebma; and Lorelei, daughter of Corwin and Moire in this game... .

Interestingly I both liked and disliked Paranoia. It was great for a silly one off, but alas there was no way a campaign was going to work with it.
My Past Amber Characters
Thaddius - A martial son of Flora who ended up being kidnapped by Chaos and used in their breeding programme Fergus - A studious son of Fiona with mismatched eyes and a dangerous destiny. Gwyddion - A cruel and ambitious half faerie son of Eric Eidlos - A haemephradite son of Fiona, who ended up being King of the Halcyon (its a long story) to Nimue as his Queen Jewel - A Trump artist autistic daughter of Llewella who liked dinosaurs and eating hamburgers. Octavia (who I've also played in LoGaS) - A Gypsy daughter of an unknown Amberite with a boat and a dozen killer rabbits

There, I’ve done my post so I can write extra stuff. I played a little D&D and Top secret when I was a teenager but was much more into playing Battletech as a table top game. University, work and married life got in the way of gaming until I moved overseas. Then I got back into gaming with Heroclix and into play by post on HCRealms. There was a campaign group there called RPSC that would role play our game actions and it was a lot of fun. I played a Green Lantern Corps team that had some real cool ideas in it. (My favourites were an off shoot of the GLC that was called the GL agricorps. They would help develop planets to enhance their ability to develop/sustain life. John Stewart went to work with them after the destruction of Xanshi. And the second was a simulation area on OA that the GLs could use for training.) Enjoying that a lot I decided to look online and see if I could find an ADRP game because I loved the Amber series, owned the first RPG rule book but had never played. I have played a couple of characters through a couple of games. Karlsen who is very loosely based off of Guan Yu from the Chinese warring states period. He is a steampunk magic engineer who sailed around on the Nautilus, which was based on the USS Constitution. He has a workshop called The Clockworks where he experiments with combining magic and science. He had quite a run in Kevin’s game. And of course Han Xu Liang who is based off of Zhuge Liang from the same period. I think I’ve played them both in 3 games? I guess I like bringing an eastern flavour to games to contrast the majority western characters. The last few years my friends and I have started playing using Zoom and Standard Action. My friend started with a D&D game and when that finished up we continued with a Firefly inspired home brew. Then I followed up with a Transformers home brew game with the players playing the Decepticons. We’ve struggled to get back into the habit of playing again since I returned from vacation and to be honest I haven’t had the energy to do the work of reminding everyone in advance of playing. I miss DMing though. I have a lot of ideas popping around my head that I’d like to set some adventurers to exploring.

For n00bs mainly, a few words about me. I've done GM'ing of one form or another for longer than I care to remember, and started running Amber from the time of the first UK convention in 95. I've tried running PBeM games on a couple of occasions with varying degrees of success, but By Design was the first forum game I'd actively written for. I did it for 5 years in the end but now my time is devoted to a Ghosts of Albion game I run once a week and several others I play in including Kevin's "A Fresh Start". One of the few benefits of the pandemic is the sudden need to do gaming online (Discord mainly) and the habit has stuck. Since all of my players and GMs live a long way from me this has allowed me to do a lot more than I used to.
Looking forward to my first FtF gaming since the start of the pandemic in Feb 23 when ACNI returns.

I have been playing Amber since it came out. Met Zelazny before he died and was lucky enough to hear a reading of "Lonesome October." I got to talk to him and Erick Wujick. I was loosely friends with Erick due to some connections to Palladium games. I played under him several times at cons. Really nice guy. I have had a few characters. Outside Kailessa, I am playing a artifact creature (a PC's X-creature) that became a court doctor. The character had been infused with Amber blood, but probably not strong enough to walk the Pattern. Advanced SS and Trump are what the character uses. I am currently running three Star Trek Adventures games that are connected. The games all center around the Badlands, the Briar Patch and the Typhon Expanse. Last year I ran Ebberon Pathfinder and One Ring (Tolkien RPG). I am like Eivor in that the pandemic affected my gaming and Discord and Roll20 became my primary outlet. Now all my games are online. I have one I can attend in person and do so every other month. I know how job issues go, so I am inclined to let our GM deal with real life and return when things calm down.

kailessa Wow! I'm jealous. Also a bit inspired. I've started reading The Last Defender of Camelot stories to Bruce (my son).

Actually I found out he had almost no knowledge of Arthur and Camelot, or other classic western stories. So we took a trip to the library and grabbed a sack of reading for him. Hopefully now he knows who Lancelot is. LOL
