It could have come from outside; some version of a trump gate given a massive boost of power to push it through. Although the sources and technique is different here, Hammett could convince himself that someone made a rougher, cruder version of one of his doors in this room. Or it could be as he first though and the prisoner escaped by his own means.

Hammett turns back to her, "Unfortunately I can't say for sure with the information I have. Given the amount of residual energy present I'm inclined to believe the source was from here in the cell, but it is definitely possible someone with enough power could have forced open a trump gate to inside this room to free the prisoner. That would also explain the residual energy signature, but if that was the case, at least as far as I know of trumps, the person opening the gate would also have to be familiar enough with this cell to create the trump gate to it. And if they could do that, I would think it would be easier just to overpower the cell's defenses and use a normal trump card connection to free the prisoner. There would be no need to create a trump gate, unless they didn't know who was in the cell, so they didn't have or couldn't make a trump card of them."
He thinks a bit longer, "Or, I guess, if the prisoner didn't want to go with them. That is also a possibility. With a normal trump connection you can't force a person to step through to you. But with a big enough trump gate you could make it so they had no choice, or come through yourself or send minions though, overpower the prisoner, and take them with you back through the gate."
"I'm sorry, but without more information on who was held here, or what other power was involved in creating the effect and breaching your security, all I can offer is a list of possibilities. Fiona has forgotten more about trumps then I will probably ever know, she might be able to give you a definitive answer if you could risk asking her. Or maybe Merlin, if you are on good terms with him? I know he created some sort of trump creature or machine of great power. So he must be very well versed in all their possible uses. I've only just began playing around with alternate ways of using the trumps, with only limited success, maybe one day if I live long enough, I'll be at their level, but for now..."

Rebma thanks you. Now, time to get uncomfortable again."She holds out the sack to Hammett.

Hammett takes the offered sack, "Are you sure you don't want me to try and force open the gateway or whatever it was? If it worked that would definitely give you more information, one way or another."
If she declines Hammett will put on the sack and wait to be led out. If she agrees, then things will get interesting.

Hammett smiles, "I'll get my bartenders working on that immediately."
He pulls out his trumps and shuffles through until he get to the Wormwood's card.
"You have my trump, if you ever need assistance with anything just let me know."
He focuses on the trump and an instant later he is in his club.

Back "home" Hammett changes into his traveling gear then uses Wormwood's doorway to travel to Begma.
Once there he checks in with Dalton, and assuming everything is running smoothly, asks for him to arrange for the quickest transportation to take him to Kashfa. While he waits for that to happen, he takes out his trump card for Ugarte and trumps him.
Again, assuming everything is still going smoothly with the team in Ceridin, and after the pleasantries are done, he says, "Ugarte, remember that night back in Wormwood's? Right before everything went to hell? You asked me about the information the Amber spies were carrying. You said you had some powerful and rich buyers interested in getting that information. Who were they?"

#s://i~ibb~co/7kyv8Kf/ugarte~jpg Wormwood's is running smoothly if a bit busier than usual. An Insurance Sales convention is happening close to one of the doors and the bar and casino are filled with tipsy adjusters. Things are fine with Dalton too; he finds a ship heading out Kashfa way that leaves in a few hours. "They weren't the type to give out their names, Hammett," Ugarte says. "It was just 'get the goods and meet us on Pier 39.' I doubt they'd stay in town once things got hot unless they really needed the documents and are still searching for them."

Hammett nods, "I feared as much, but just wanted to check. I should be back in Ceridin fairly soon and we'll catch up then, but between now and then, try and remember anything else you can about them. Accents, descriptions, who else they might have gone to. Anything that could be used to help find out who they were."
With that Hammett closes the connection. He wanted to find out who the third party was in all this, and how they fit in. It wasn't Lady Vada's people, it was her "Conductor" assassin that had killed the agents in the first place and stole the information. So were these potential buyers just another enemy of Amber looking to gain information, or at least disrupt it, or were they working against Lady Vada? That seemed like wishful thinking, but it could be one of those "an enemy of my enemy is my friend" type situations. It would be nice to know. He had a sinking suspicion that even if they could find the trail, it would lead back to Delgos, and that woman Anna May who had bought the Conductor off of Brennon and wanted to buy Pinky as well. Whoever her employer was seemed very well informed. Not for the first time he regretted not taking the time to find out more about that whole situation at the time it happened. But coming right after his injuries, the death of Random, the need to heal, and to find Martin, he had let the matter slide. Well, not for much longer. He would take care of this Kashfa situation quickly, hopefully getting Amber back in Begma's good graces at the same time -Amber needed all of the allies to could find right now- then it would be back to Delgos and to find out what this Anna May knew.
Hammett impatiently waits for the ship Dalton arranged passage for him to depart.

Pickled Vengeance is the name of the ship and Carrett captains her. A leaking, ragged vessel with tattered sails and a worrying list to port as she sails. The captain also lists to port while walking on his whalebone peg leg.
Perched on the prow is a large glass jar with a huge eyeball preserved within.
"Aye, that's all that remains of Great Jimm, a monster of the deep which sunk my first ship The Lady's Luck. Bought this ship after years of savin' and sailed into battle against Jimm. Won but at the cost of me leg and other parts. This here ship is kept in the same state as she was after the great battle.
"Kashfa, you say? It'll be a long dangerous trip in these conditions. Not many would take their ships out in such but the 'Vengance is no ordinary ship and her crew no ordinary sailors. I be suggesting you stow yerself below decks until we reach port."

[[OCC: I plan on going to Kashfa, not Kasaba. Going to try and finish the promise I made to the Begma PM to find his daughters, well at least one of them. trying to cross things off my "to do" list.]]

[[OCC: All good. Easy mistake especially since I was talking to Ugarte about Kasaba, while getting the ship to Kashfa. But I thought Kashfa was close to Begma (same shadow)?]]

Hammett takes the captain's advice and spends the trip in his cabin. He passes most of the time working on sketches of the Delgos dock, refining them from memory until he finally gets one that will work as a trump sketch.
