"As you wish, my friend," Mandor says. Three small spheres fly from the darkness to hover at the man's shoulder. He speaks words to them in a language Brian can not fathom then the three devices fly to Shelly. The first orbits slowly above her brow, the second above her heart and the third at her sternum. "That will improve her rest. "You mentioned Dorian. Would that be Lord Dorian of Amber? Prince Gerard's son?" " So the lady says." Brian says with a firm voice. " She enlisted me to bring her to her Dorian safely. She suspects he seeks the trouble that befell his father. I am sceptical but I suppose it is possible." He sipped the wine slowly. " Prior to these recent events I had little desire to assist the clan of Kolvir." He looked firmly at Mandor. " The strife I have seen here has convinced me the Tuath of Kolvir's interests and mine have a similar outcome I should seek out." He grins a bit at Mandor " Though I suppose you might offer me a different perspective. " Brian is going to take some time to assess where he is, and asses if he is still in the same Shadow.

"Ah, a woman of blood and spirit has bewitched you and lead you down the path to Deiga. I can picture it all now: you meet and by her wyles she convinces you to be her guardian, then you travel with the other youths from Amber facing storm and pirate, you always defending her from trouble. You arrive in Deiga, get mixed up in the local unrest and then find yourself imprisoned in a half collapsed building surrounded by a wall of ice and her wounded near to death.
"And now, at this lowest point, you ask me for advice. I will need time to think. How about we speak of happier matters until desert, then my mind will have thought of something."
He refills Brian's glass.
"What of your friends? Such a shame that they couldn't join us in this repast. I even set out places in expectation of their arrival."

Brian can't tell anything about the environment of this room or outside. Gravity and air pressure feel the same as Deiga, though.

Such a shame that they couldn't join us in this repast. I even set out places in expectation of their arrival." Brian laughs a laugh full of life. "Hardly." He smiles at Mandor with an amused grin. "My dear Annie is the only woman who bewitched me. Though I love my Phantom Queen she is very old....I know at some point the novelty of my youth will lead us to part."
He seems amused and Mandor's play of things. "And I am imprisoned? I thought I took refuge from the storm in the best port available to me. " He raises his glass again "And a fine port in the storm I found."
He worked on his meal some. "Friends would be a bit much. They are good company for the time being. And one finds it easy to have common cause with people when pirates and mobs seek to do you ill. I didn't want to be entangled with the affairs of Amber. I thought Shelly was my path to avoid it. I thought I could find her Dorian for her and slip her into a warzone as a neutral party and wash my hands of it. My trip to Amber reminds me of words of a wise old Bard my first father told me. 'A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. ...' It is why I enjoy your company. Hardly the sign of a man of a dying culture."
anything feel weird in the pattern of the place separate from Diega?
OOC: “A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot.”

Mandor gives a small chuckle of his own.
"Tenses are always a problem in Shadow. I should amend that you were imprisoned in a half-destroyed building. You were wise to find your escape into my ways. Consider yourself freed from the troubles of Deiga.
"Amber is experiencing....troubled times. I don't believe that they ever recovered from the loss of King Oberon and many allies continue to hold resentments against Corwin and Random. With the gift of fortune, maybe a new regime can restore the grace she used to have."

" Ayalos is a home to an inward focusing people. It's why we've fought amongst each other so much. And the old tales dont speak well of Amber. I've done my best to try to let such things go past me. It's been a challenge. One I likely could have done better with. " He sloshes the wine. " So are you campaigning for a new graceful regime? Or are you speaking for the one who seems systematically going about dismantling their power?" He smirks " and I suspect some one dangled Lady Shelly at me as bait."

"Ah, my friend, I must, once again remind you that you were not 'waylaid' as you say. You broke into my house.
"My concern with Amber is of an interested observer; she does not interfere with me nor I with her.
"To be so easily hooked by such a small piece of bait does question how well you deal out your own cards, dear King."

He laughs softly.
"She was betrothed to a Lord of Amber, a Scion of their strongest prince and she came into a dive bar.....I felt bad for her. I felt sympathy. It could be chance but you seem to me to be the type of man who knows that true chance is rare."

"Cast your mind back, my friend, and I don't believe you will me remember saying that you were expected.
"My friend, how can you be the master your fate if your heart can be tugged so easily by one mere waif? I expected a sterner stomach in the King of Ayalos. A man of destiny can't let himself become mislead by the common rabble."

I was amazing when poisoned and nearly exsanguinated. I was going through a moment of vanity when she crossed my path." He finishes the wine and waits for his host's next move

"Ah, vanity! It makes fools of us all." Mandor replies.
He touches his napkin to the corners of his mouth then tosses it onto his plate. He leans back with a contented sigh.
"That's enough for me. I find it best to eat just enough to satiate my hunger and no more. To overindulge is to risk forgetting the difference between wants and needs. But you eat on, my friend! Your exertions this day may require greater sustenance."

Though I've not had a proper meal in a while.I do hope I will have the chance to host you in my kingdom soon. After these troubles are sorted out. Its the least I could do for being the first civil person I've met who isn't a bartender or a ship captain." He sighs a bit. "I don't suppose you have cigars?" is time here running different then Diega?

Brian has no way of sensing the passage of time without windows or timepieces. "I am glad to be of friendly service, King. Look behind that serving dish, and you will find a box of the best cigars I could wrangle out of the shadows I have traversed."With a wave of his hand, invisible servants come and clear the plates. With another wave, others come with two small bowls of lemon sorbet. "A little something to cleanse our pallets before dessert, or the cigars if you prefer.
I find it strange that so many of you have come to squalid little Deiga; certainly their things of greater interest and usefulness you and your friends could be concerning yourselves with? I know you planned to go to Kasaba, but why spend so much time here?"
