Brennon's face is stolid, the result of the storminess of being accused wrongly, mixed with the expectation of no better from a Prince of Amber. He folds his arms across his chest as he replies to Calvera. "I do not have a fleet, and I would never attack Amber. I know which side my bread is buttered on. My ship is a letter-of-marque, and I only pursue lawful prey in Amber's waters. These people wish to join Amber's fleet, and contracted me for escort, no more. As you are a representative of that fleet, then if you take them on, my duty is done and I can depart."He hasn't refused, and he waits to see what Calvera's next accusation will be. Letter-of-Marque. Also used to represent a ship carrying the same.

"They are out for revenge on his killers. They could be useful to Amber, or they could grow to cause more problems. I'm pretty sure any Prince of Amber would be able to take what loyalty they offer and use it. I've certainly no use for it myself. I've little to no love of Vikings." It may not be wise to challenge Calvera's abilities, but Brennon has done all he can to get rid of Ruta's crew prematurely. If this is the sort of blockheaded thinking Hammett ran into, then he can see why he wasn't currently getting along with his relatives.
If Calvera is still willing to talk, Brennon will talk. If he seems obstinate, Brennon will turn aside and sail back to the sea lane, letting Calvera's little prizes sail on. He really should have brought a better escort with him; those ships, though presumably full of supplies for Amber, were just too open and inviting. Brennon saw no challenge in it, and thus no reason to pursue them. Ruta's people may have a different opinion, and if they did, he would have Celessia quietly slip away.

No! Do not betray us, Brennon. Calvera lies! Do not place us at the mercy of the future tyrant! We know much, much hidden from your human eyes! Destroy Calvera, and we will tell you everything! the voices of Ruta and the Elders howl in unison in his mind.

Brennon waits for Calvera's reaction.
[ooc: Are they speaking to each other deck-to-deck, or across a wide gap of sea? ]

#s://i~ibb~co/28Y9wNs/Calvera~jpg [OOC: a small gap of water separates the two ships, about 15'. Close enough to hear each other over the gale but far enough to make jumping the gap hazardous to impossible.] "You must sense the strange power these people possess. A power that is jealous and inamicable to Amber? Have you consorted with the Viking princess? If so, then you have been corrupted." Calvera says.

Brennon spreads his hands. "Possible, but I'm not trying to get to Amber. I am, in fact, trying to get you to take them there, so I can fulfill my contract, and still avoid the place. If you don't want to believe me that's your loss, but I had the perfect opportunity to take your convoy as prizes, and I didn't. I doubt they could do it themselves, without me. What is it you're really worrying about?" Brennon doubts Calvera will deign to answer to that question fully or truthfully, but the lies and evasions might give him something to work with.

Calvera gives Brennon an evil smile when Brenn mentions the taking of his fleet.
"We sensed a stirring in Shadow, felt an oncoming storm. You were with Gerard mere hours before his death, yes?"

This was not the direction Brennon had expected the conversation to go, but he was a good enough sailor to change tack with the winds.
"I gave him a report aboard his ship a few hours before the assault on Kasaba, but I'm sure I wasn't the only one to do so. I found him overbearing, pushy, and concerned about things he wasn't sharing, but that isn't unusual amongst men I've had to work with, nor amongst the family of Amber. I was back aboard my own ship by the time the attack started, but if you want the tale, this isn't the best time and place for it. There's taverns aplenty in the Mon Pelliamor capital, and plenty of military cover in their harbour for any ships' safety."

#s://i~ibb~co/28Y9wNs/Calvera~jpg "You were with him - you and Hammett - just before he dies. Then Hammett kills Random. And now you lead a fleet against Amber while Julian and Benedict are missing. I am sure you will tell me that it is all coincidence and you had nothing to do with any of it. I won't believe you.
"Neither you nor Hammett have the power to win or control Amber so why are you doing this? Who is your other conspirator? Leonil? He's dead. Very dead so you would be a fool to continue this action. Who else is in your cabal? Naming them just might save your neck from the noose or axe, depending on Princess Flora's mood."
