Xu Liang and Eivor
Eivor is what you might call selectively superstitious. As ready to laugh at folklore as to bow before a tribe's idol. She believes in spirits and magic in a heathen way, and when she stops moving and takes in her surroundings might consider the movement of birds as a message or omen. Usually she doesn't stop long enough.

Fortitua, Eivor’s realm of Fire and Ice
Generalized Geography
The Realm of Fortitua is a broad Shadow of tremendous continents, great seas, and one enormous Northern Island, whose people influenced the entire realm. In the North, where the summers are mild and the winters are harsh, you have the Continent of Aesir, or more accurately, the largest island in the Shadow. To the South in a more temperate clime, a string of volcanic islands, some approaching Aesir in size, some small, collectively called Caledon, rise. More sea and islands lead to the mainland which consists of several Kingdoms, from the plateau of Livonia on the peninsula, to Etrusca in the deep mainland.
The People
The Northmen are named for their continent, Aesir. The Aesir were a strong seagoing people, which evolved from roving marauders, to pirates to worldly merchants and mercenaries, and in time, into settlers. Their history is rich and complex, and all the more fascinating for the deep and resonant impact they have had since times forgotten. There are few in Fortitua that cannot claim a small bit of Aesir blood, so wide ranging were their travels and accomplishments. In the distant past, the Aesir are and were masters of the Sea and their ships were marvels of engineering. In the present day, the Aesir take to the skies in great Sky-ships, long and slender like the longships of old; a recognizable symbol of the Aesir’s continuing evolution. Few though they are, their presence is felt all over the world.
Aesir is also the home to the Temple of Arcadia, dedicated to StormRaven, the All Father, who goes by many names. The Temple also houses a mighty tree called the World Tree by the native Aesir. It is said that its roots are what divide the worlds, and keep Fortitua within the influence of Amber, and relatively free of incursions.
Theology
Religion across Fortitua is a daily part of everyone's life, and rare is the home without some sort of small altar or some form of dedication to one or more of the Vanir. However, other than the Temple of Arcadia, which acts as the spiritual center of Fortitua, the religion has no centralized clergy, no involvement in government and no overweening influence beyond the spiritual realm and a given individual. The Vanir are the numerous legendary heroes of the Aesir, venerated with small shrines and cults. The ability of shamans to take animal forms is known and respected.
Technology
Thanks to the persistent inventiveness of the Aesir, and their love of logic and thought, Fortitua has seen as a revolution in both technology and magic. The Sky-ships of the Aesir are the finest example of this, a combination of runic sorcery and natural science. There are other examples, such as the Steam-driven automatons used in war and construction, though these are rare than Sky-ships, or the runic pistols being used in duels. Like many things in Aesir, their level of technology is a working amalgam, in this case, of runic sorcery and technology.
