"I will bring the money then. And I'll carry a bit extra in case you change your mind about Pinky. She would best be sedated."

Brennon just nods, and escorts her back to wherever in town she wishes to be left. The cabin boy can let his officers know about the preparations to make, until he gets back. The Captain takes his leave with a bow over her hand and a wink instead of a kiss. Once business has cleared out of sight, he will find a more respectable tavern and order a drink, then find a table where he can be partially unobserved and pull out his trump of Hammett for his regular noon call.
[ooc: this all assumes Brennon gets that far..]

Anna May was happy to be returned to the bar where they first met.
Contacting Hammett.....

The connection made and Hammett goes, "Brennon! It is good to reach you. I was starting to get worried. Are you alright? Did you get out of Kasaba? And is Pinky with you?"

"Hammett, finally," Brennon begins, then cuts off as Hammett's image becomes more clear. "By the Emperor's blue balls, what happened to your eye? Your face? The rest of you?" Only the last actually sounds like a question. His voice is loud, especially for the corner he is occupying, and after a quick look and some sleight-of-hand with the card to hide it in something excusable as unexpected news in written correspondence, the other patrons turn back to their own tables. This gives Hammett some time to quickly sketch in the events, if he wishes.
Brennon continues once things have settled back into sociability.
"Aye, she's here, as well as whatever she brought from your bar. Someone's shown some extra interest in her, we're offloading some cargo to them tonight, but I won't be letting Pinky go ashore alone once I get back to the ship. Too much interest in personnel. I caught the edge of you by trump right after leaving Kasaba, so I knew you made it out, but I couldn't get more than that. Figured I'd keep trying until one of us got through. Are you still headed for Begma? There's the matter of a fee to be settled.."

"Glad you are alright and thank you for taking care of her and getting her out of Kasaba."
Hammett motions to his face, "I ran in to some troubles after leaving Kasaba. A family accident unfortunately, but I am getting better. The eye patch adds to my mystic don't you think? Maybe I'll become a pirate? I feel Amber and it's environs are going to become very troubled and dangerous for the next little while. The King and Queen have been killed and there is sure to be fighting over the throne, plus I fear that the invasion of Kasaba was just the first step in an attack on Amber itself. What's the old saying? "Chaos is a ladder"? And yes to Begma, unless you are closer to Ceridin right now. If so, that is where I am currently based out of, at least until I get Wormwood's up and running again."

Seeing that Brennon is still is shock at his injuries, Hammett continues, "Also have word on another job. Might be easy, might be dangerous depending on how many people take an interest. Prince Martin, King Random's son, is off somewhere in shadow. I've been asked to locate him. He might have no idea what has happened, on the other hand he might be on the run fearing for his own life. And he might have good reason. I have feelers out already, and a back-up plan if needed to find him, but my feeling is it might be best to do it simply and low-key. Interested? Or have you got your own plans for what happens next?"

Brennon is obviously still a bit rattled at his friend's new face.
"There's still the matter of payment.." it seems to be his default state, taking care of the money, or the score, first. "I believe the phrase is, 'Chaos is a web of treachery and intrigues." The accent he puts on the phrase says he learned it far closer to the Courts than the Golden Circle, though most shadows that have had dealings with the courts have a similar saying.
"They were killed? I'd heard the castle exploded, but nothing specific about the rulers. Is that how you got injured?" He shakes his head before Hammett can answer, "No, you said it was family, and I doubt Pinky would have called your home 'that weirdo shadow' if it was Amber."
"I'm near the Golden Circle at the moment, but if you're right about what happened there, this is probably as close as I ought to get. Do you have a method for locating the quarry? I haven't met him, so I have no way of tracking him down. Feelers are all very well, but they have some of the more subtle ways of avoiding trails, if you take my meaning."

Hammett smiles, "Amber is one of my homes, but not one I spend much time in." He motions to his face, "And after this I think I'll be spending even less there."
He continues, "Ceridin is another one of my homes, I have my own section of berths at the docks that my company maintains. Fairly private and they are use to lots of ships from very unusual locals berthing there. It might be a good place for you to dock and for some r&r for your crew. It is probably about as safe as anywhere right now, and possibly safer then most. As for payment..."
((OCC: I forget what they payment was going to actually be. Can you remind me.))

[ooc: A trump card of his ship. Brennon was angling for 2, one of his ship and a portrait sized one (of himself) for his ship, whatever that means, but Hammett said one was usually expensive enough. They were still sort of negotiating, and Hammett hasn't ever met the living ship.]

Brennon shakes his head. "I haven't heard of Ceridin. I'll need a lot better description of the place if I'm going to get there on my own. Like I said, I have business here until midnight tonight, then I'm free to sail. Assuming trouble doesn't come with the cargo, we'll leave at the morning tide. If there is trouble, we'll leave as soon as we can. It's hard on the crew, but all shore leave is up as the sun sets, just to make sure we're all aboard."
He seems to think for a moment, then decides to add, "the purchaser showed an unusual amount of interest in Pinky, too. I had to keep stating she wasn't for sale."

"Really? I assume they hadn't met Pinky in person then. No one would willingly pay to put up with her." Hammett jokes, but then continues, "But that is interesting. I wonder how they knew she isn't what she appears? Or are they just after her because she works with me? Either way, thank you for keeping her safe. I know she can be a handful. Ceridin is part of the Golden Circle, so there are marked shadow paths and routes to her. The good thing is that it is pretty exclusive. A rich and old shadow, only ships directly with Amber and other major players, while keeping itself out of the politics. I run the only shipping company that deals with more exotic locals and have my own private section of berths at the port, so The Celessia should blend right in."

Brennon's eyes narrow. "Only with Amber and some major players? That would be why I haven't heard about it then; I try to pick my battles with ships that aren't much bigger than me, and who don't come with a seasoned fleet escort. Do they have firepower? War mages?" he then lists several more questions, trying to learn the various properties and dangers of the shadow and find where along the Golden Circle it lies.
When he is done, he will lean back in his chair and ask the real question. "So, did you want to come here and guide me, and possibly keep an eye on Pinky while the deal goes down tonight? Your trip fee, this part at least, has already been negotiated."

Hammett grins at the questions, "It's a chill place, just very prim and proper. They are rich and they know it, and feel "above" all the petty politics of the other shadows. But don't worry the dock district is just like ones everywhere else. Your crew won't be bored and heck, if they want a little culture and don't mind cleaning up a bit there are museums and galas and things like in the town proper. Just make sure they behave and don't steal anything. I'm friendly with people in power here if that eases your worries."
He then gives better directions on how to locate the right shadow paths that will lead there.
"I could come through, but I worry these buyers you've got lined up might somehow know and it could sour the deal. It seems like some of the people involved in the Kasaba situation are still interested in me so I am trying to keep a lowish profile as much as I am able while still taking care of the dozens of other things pulling me in every direction. But if you think you need the back-up I can come though now, or if you are worried about Pinky and want her off your ship, you can get her and I can bring her through to me right now."
