"I'm aware. Though if it was a copy, it was a good one. He withstood several sturdy blows and gave me a few of his own, before trumping out without the use of a card," Eivor replies.

"Alright, that does sound like him..." Jacob looks down into the body pit with a grim thought, "You don't suppose..." but cuts himself off. "We'll talk about it later. Right now, there are fanatics to appease."

"Thank you for coming," Eivor says. "I only wish it were in better circumstances."

"Bizarre cults, widespread and industrial-scale blood sacrifice, BUT no other family members immediately apparent...so, trade-offs?" Jacob gives a wry grin.

The sun begins to set as they talk - it must set quickly in this shadow. The pilgrims begin to wail and call out that the moons have turned.
"The ritual wasn't completed. Death will descend from the skies!" the guard says, looking out of the cave.

"Oh well, death from the skies. I've been through that recently." Jacob moves to the mouth of the cave, both to see what the moons are doing and for any indications of this impending doom.
((OOC: I'm also curious because of the descriptions we've gotten of this space - there are still, if I understand the narrative in Eivor's previous thread, hundreds if not thousands of people outside in line. Is that correct?))

OOC: There are very many people in a line stretching as far as Eivor and Jacob can see. Who knows how shadow works because Eivor seemed to be part of a procession moving through shadow, or she was seeing echoes of pilgrims as she traveled.

"Stay at your post," Eivor growls at the guard, moving to the cave mouth with Jacob to see what's going on. "If it is death from above, I need to get airborne. If you can handle things here, I'll see what can be done with these 'angels"."
With that, Eivor starts to shift into her great eagle form and takes flight to ascend to the highest point of the mountain where she has a good view of earth and sky.

Jacob watches Eivor take off, leaving him with, as far he understands, a large band of murderous religious fanatics. He bites his tongue for a moment and produces his daggers.
"Alright," his voice takes on a sharper tone of command. "Guards, form a line, spears up. The rest of you..." He looks down the seemingly endless line of sacrifice. "Get down on the ground. If it is your time, it is your time, but prostrate yourselves and perhaps the gods will be forgiving." Vague and noncommittal - give me that old time religion, Jacob snarked to himself as he waited to see what constituted an "angel" so close to Amber - as he recalled, the words actually translated as "messenger," though he expected this wasn't just going to be belligerent mail carriers.

[OOC: 'So close to Amber?' Why does Jacob figure that?]
They see the three moons arcing out of their orbits and spinning in reverse, 'Widdershins' as someone once called it. Eivor sees the line of pilgrims, once so orderly, now their formation is a broken zig-zag as far as she can see. On top of the temple, the power builds between the jacal's horns - a chaotic swirl and flashing of dull colours. A soul-shaking hum begins to sound from the horns.
While looking outside, Jacob hears a slurshing and sloching sound from the rear of the chamber. Brand sticks his now blood-covered head out of the disposal chute and looks around with his one good eye.
"Has that demon lady gone?" he asks.

[OOC: 'So close to Amber?' Why does Jacob figure that?] The number of Amberite-like figures he's seen in being here for barely half an hour.

Eivor curses inwardly and brings the Pattern to mind, hoping she can in some way avert whatever summons is about to take place. Spinning about the head of Anubis, she weaves back and forth trying to suppress the power and quiet the horns. If it cannot be suppressed she will try to disperse it though the body of the temple, grounding it rather than let it build.

Brand sticks his now blood-covered head out of the disposal chute and looks around with his one good eye. "Has that demon lady gone?" he asks. Jacob turns slowly to see the gore-drenched figure climb out of the charnel pile. He is unsure whether he is more disquieted by a figure climbing out of slaughtered bodies, or by Brand climbing out slaughtered bodies, but he stomps on his urge to scream...at least for the moment. "She is out responding to a metaphysical knock at the door. You have until she returns to persuade me of your value, so I'd start talking, were I you."

Eivor:
Whatever this power is, it is quickened by Eivor's attempted application of the Pattern.

#s://i~ibb~co/3RLgZ4b/oneeyedbrand~png Jacob:Brand pulls himself further out of the tunnel. The grossness doesn't diminish. Jacob sees that the man is missing an eye, now only a dull red glow comes from the socket. "Who are you to speak thus to a Prince of Amber, boy?" he says.
