"Yes, we do need the Pattern and the mountain to hold it, but why the castle? Why the city? Why the army of servants to keep the castle functioning?
"I'll tell you why. To keep us entertained. And to protect us, and remove much of the drudgery of our lives so we will all bein fine shape to sacrifice our lives in defending Amber. Who would want to live here if there was nothing but a mountain with the family living in caves? Sanity requires the city and so a great part of our job here is to keep the city safe and stable. Corwin and Bleys forgot that important rule."[/font]

Ovid stood there still as a statue listening to Florimel.
When she was finished, he did not nod he replied though, "You would get along well with the gods and goddesses of my homeland. They too viewed the people as entertainment." His face and posture never changed save that his eyes looked down for a moment. "I understand the symbiotic relationship and the damage those actions caused."
He shifted his stance slightly, "Is there a reason, the sins of those particular nobles is brought up to me?" His eyes narrowed just a tiny bit barely perceptible. His body was still relaxed and calm.
"I said, I would think on it an while that is not an outright yes, it is not a no. I just do not like being a breeding bull. Let me meet the twins, I would ask some things were this to occur. I will be going into Garnath in the morning with Dirk, possibly with Brian. He needs to heal though. I do have something Brian brought up you should know if you have not been informed. He met a Mathew part of a cult, a child of Random who according to Fiona lacked a certain something which would allow him to walks the Pattern. With this disturbing news of organ harvesting that the Chaosian Dionisia brought up, and Brian seemed to back up to a degree. Perhaps this cult is children lacking things that someone is providing or maybe that they are even seizing themselves in the way of some surgical procedure. I don't know, at this point it is just a theory."

#s://i~ibb~co/j5FLskF/Florimel~jpg "Nothing of Corwin or Bleys was meant to be a reflection on you, but to tell of why the people of the city are less inclined to submit to our ruling as willingly as they once did. Damage was done to them, many of their children died defending Amber from its own princes, and then many more were killed in a war with the Courts of Chaos which was also started by one of my brothers. Random hoped that if he ignored it, then things would eventually sort themselves out. I am not interested in sitting by passively while the city suffers. And then, by the Grace of the Unicorn, all these new and thought lost nieces and nephews return to the castle, all looking for something to do! All are looking for some way to help Amber! Brian was the first choice to help, but his great plan seemed to stab each raindrop as it fell. So we move the war from the battlefield to the bedroom.
"Matthew? Was he one of the rabble camped out at the castle gates? They are nothing but fools hoping to con their way into the family. I had them all rounded up and sent to a farm out Bayle's way. If they interest you, it won't be long until more show up. They are attracted like flies. Psychotic fanboys, really. Some of the idiots even left marmalade sandwiches by the gates after Random died, and no one can figure out why."

Ovid listened as she spoke of the past. Some of the things he had heard from Prince Gerard and piecemeal from others. Hearing about Brian he smiled, "Brian and I, are perhaps cut from the same cloth. I can see your wisdom now more clearly." Ovid nodded.
"I never met Mathew myself though if Fiona took a moment to speak of his lack of something that would allow him to walk the Pattern, perhaps there is something to it, more than just rabble. I can't speak for any of them though, but desperate people and ambitious people are willing to do much and I am still just learning of the ghastly deed done to Prince Julian. The two might be connected coincidences are rare even in infinity." He then shakes his head, "I have no idea why they might leave marmalade sandwiches. Was Random fond of them?"
"I will talk with you more if you allow it, when I come back from Garnath. I will see if Dirk sticks with me or not. I hope he surprises me and stays with me if some threat arises. I guess I will see. Though from the sounds of it we will only tour logging operations."
"I will see about finding nice clothing and meeting these Motius twins when I am more settled in. Dirk needs to meet them also. Let me get my legs under me here. As I only just arrived and am learning quite a bit and trying to see how I might help out. I suppose like yourself where you see the bedroom as another front, I see the kitchen as another. It will take me time to insure the right plants are imported and will cause no problems. So I will be around Amber and the Golden Circle."

#s://i~ibb~co/j5FLskF/Florimel~jpg "To tell you the truth, I hadn't at first considered you or Brian for the Motius girls. Dirk showed up just in time to use his charm on them; oh, you should have seen how he romanced them the other day: intimate chatting over dinner, a stroll about the city at night, and promises to meet again. It's no wonder Lady Motius is so taken by him. The twins too. What kind of a gentleman would abandon his duty and responsibility to those sweet girls to flirt with a demon instead? He is heading for a breach of promise suit.
"Julian is a challenging problem. If the reports are accurate, then I must decide if it is wise to send another after him. Who else could hope to survive if these people can so easily defeat the Warden of Arden?
"Your farming plan is a wise one. Have good fortune among the shadows."

"Ah, the way he implied things it was as if he just showed up and was immediately forced into an arranged marriage with no precursor to the situation." Ovid closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again. "He does seem rather taken with Dionisia, it will be a bit more dangerous if he romances and leaves her. The people of Chaos have their own power." He shakes his head slightly.
"I wish I could help with Julian, none of us deserves what is being done to him. Even though I am sure some of our enemies may think so. I don't know much about Mathgamina other than what I have been told, that it is a highly magical place. It must be if such ghoulish things can be done there. Anyone going in would have to have some way of healing Julian. If Dionisia speaks true it is possible for she was in a similar situation."
"Thank you for your good wishes on my endeavors." He smiles than bows a respectful amount to the Regent.

#s://i~ibb~co/j5FLskF/Florimel~jpg "Dionisia seems to be an orphan with no House. I don't think there is anyone to defend her honour. Dirk is a piratical rake; no doubt he feels the benefits of Dio outweigh the chance of Chaosian complications. Say what you will about the man, but his fashion sense is impeccable. Those chockers of his are already straining the leather capacity of the city. I have already had inquiries from a few of the Guilds about the situation.
"Julian will be a tough one. Something will be done once we have an acceptable plan."

"Yes, as I understand it she came from a convent. One like most things in Chaos with strange rules and laws I don't fully comprehend. The two do seem to favor each other." Ovid shrugged slightly.
"I don't wish anyone ill in romance." Cats and collars and Florimel and fashion. Ovid thinks to himself but just let's it go.
"When you move on doing something about Julian, please let me know. I will help as I can."
"Do I have your leave, Regent?"

#s://i~ibb~co/j5FLskF/Florimel~jpg "I am certain your skills will be of use when it comes time to act, Lord Ovid.
"You may depart. Keep in touch and, I must stress, do not slam the door on your way out," she says while massaging her temples. As if overhearing, a servant comes in holding a tray with a glass of water and more alkaseltzer tables.

Ovid smiled and turned, "Rest well, Regent."
He closed the door quietly.
Ovid headed off to the gym to work out till he was tired then washed up turning in for the night.
