Your forget this little shadow with a Native American theme and the Statue of Deidre and Brand with the little twins, aka Brain and Ovid. Brian and Ovid, Ovid and Cody, Cody and Brian? It could be all of the above

From Zra's thread .. "Yes I can see that this game is more by the book then other games. By reading the book no player should take Sorcery even if you have the time to properly hang spells, a simple power word, that is far cheaper by 2/3, stops all magic with a test of willpower. I made this toon magic and I'll stick with her. Bumps and all."
Note the way I referee Power Words they only stop spells that are not backed by another power. If the spell is back by Logrus, Trump or Pattern then your Power Word will fizzle. I also apply a END drain on their use so unless you have a lot of Endurance you can't just keep using them against a tribe of magic users hunting you down.

Toon Magic!?
I thought that was Cody's shtick. Opening a hole in reality and jumping into it.

Xu has used Power Words and they definitely drain Endurance in this game. Power Words are also a burst of effect, but spells can be long and enduring. Also once you use a Power Word on someone, it will be less effective on that person in the future. Spells never loose effectiveness, just the surprise value. If you need a wall of ice to block a door, Power Words aren't going to help. If you want a warning that someone enters a room/camp/area maybe even Shadow if you are powerful enough, a power word does you no good. Spell use requires planning and creativity. And sometimes you just take things because they fit your character. I was under the impression that Sorcery was a path to Pattern Magic. So while less useful, it could be a key to higher power. (crosses fingers...)

Info: I don't read any of the background stories, and I don't use anything from them in the game. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the present threads!

I am going to be out of town for about a week. I don't know if I am going to have access or not.
If I can get online, you will see me.

I have read through a few threads - followed a couple of characters to try and get the bigger picture.
And keep up on all the new material.

I have not read them either, but I am listening to the audible books of the series. Right now, Blood of Amber, Nice! Currently i am listening to the Dresden files. Usually i go to the dreamcycle of Lovecraft and then the Amber chronicles again. Now and then a new book in between.

I'm reading 'The Tale of the Body Thief' by Anne Rice. Hard to get through because the main character is such an idiot. But if he wasn't there wouldn't be much of a story. My goal now is to get through it so I can get it off the shelf and into the donation pile. I've liked some of her books, but this one is a bit of a slog.

Just finished the third Expanse book. What, another 6 or so to go? Why can't they write shorter books these days? All my doors are stopped.
Now on to the Bob Newheart autobiography.

Because another book in a series is a sure sell. New and original books are risky. You can guess which one editors or writers who are worried about making enough money to live on their profession will take.

I like book series but don't know why each book has to be so long. I'd guess that each book has to be sold for $15 or more and paper is dirt cheap so they increase the page count so people won't feel they are being ripped off. They've probably done some sort of psychological study to finding minimum size vs price for different genres and sf and fantasy needs 500+ pages to be profitable.
