Ovid listens to them talk of Dirk and chuckles, "So he fled his own wedding." he says almost to himself.
"Well, I wish them luck wherever they may be. The ladies were lovely and perhaps Lord Dirk had some sway over them. If they took his ship the Navy will spot it I am sure."

“Hopefully so but it is my understanding that he is or was a smuggler and pirate of some infamy. Sighting his ship if they wished to get away quietly might require more luck than is reasonable to expect.”
“I just don’t want to get on another of those floating coffins.” Kai says with a shudder.
“The trip here was not so bad as all that.”
“It was so. We were wet and miserable while worrying if the storms would break the ship into driftwood and send us into the sea to drown.”
“We will see if an overland route can take us to our destination. You are correct that there are more risks to sea travel now that the weather seems to have turned foul.”
“How about you Lord Ovid? Will you be staying in Amber? Or traveling again?”
(OOC – Is there anything else? Or should we wrap this up and end the thread at the castle?)

"Well, I guess we know what the darkness in the wood is, so I will be doing some traveling, yes. I need to find foodstuffs that can weather the rain and general poor weather here."
Ovid turned, "How about you, what are your plans?"

(OOC - Kicking myself for missing the wedding comment! Oh well, I guess Xu didn't hear it...)
“First there is a portrait the artist Dante and I are working on. When that is finished the Regent has asked me to convince Lady Mauve to come back and take up her duties again. Unless by some miracle she returns on her own.”
“Fat chance of that happening.”
“You are probably right. In between these will be some investigation of these samples for clues to the properties of the curse and perhaps paths to investigate for its removal, or at least mitigation.”
“Hopefully there will be some events in the next few days that I may attend. My connection to Amber, other than proving myself by walking the Pattern, is tenuous and making more connections would be a good use of time.”
(OOC I just looked up how long it takes to paint a portrait and Google says, “I would give it ~64 hours ... starting from a prepped canvas, and assuming your colors are ready? 6 hours of drawing, 6 hours of underpainting, 40 hours of painting-painting, 12 hours of tempura detailing and varnish.” Even skipping the detailed underpainting and tempura detailing and varnish that is still at least a week! Then further digging makes it seem that it’s a complicated question. As it’s just to jog a memory and not meant for hanging in a gallery I would think that 16-24 hours of work seems reasonable. So does 2 or 3 days sound good? GM – How long do you want to say Dante will take?)

"Best of luck in convincing Lady Mauve, in fact good luck in all your endeavors. It is good to know Dante is still about and doing some of his paintings. He is quite good at that. I will take off into shadow though I will be returning from time to time with seed and spores to test things."
"I had wished that we would have been more successful here."

[OOC Just for you to know Dante started a to make trump of Maeve when Maeve met him in Shadow at an unspecified time before the recent events. So he has a working trump of her. If he is admitting to have such a trump is a different topic.]

“Thank you, luck will likely be a big part of convincing her, I fear.”
“These things take time. Surely, we will be able to work out a solution eventually and the samples we gathered are a good start. And if we had not looked into the curse, we would not have witnessed the other events. So, this was certainly a good use of our time.” He smiles cheerfully, “Remember as heroes we must experience hardship and difficulty before we have success. And sometimes the story is an epic tale so there are long times of darkness and toil before the good times arrive.”
“Will you be leaving now? Or just sometime soon?”

OOC: A proper portrait would take a week or more, depending on how long the subject is willing to sit each day. Trump cards are less detailed and take a day or two, depending on the painter's psyche rank.

"I will be leaving relatively soon. Agreed on the hardship still it can be frustrating when we are kept out of the loop of whatever that woman and Corwin were doing out there. It was not just a chance meeting."
Ovid rode along looking over the land saddened at seeing it in this state and not the vibrant shining realm when he first saw it.
"If Corwin wanted he could seize power here especially now and yet he doesn't." Ovid shook his head, "This whole situation vexes me, and to learn Lady Mauve is gone now too. Amber needs people and Corwin who is someone who I think should be working to help Amber isn't or at least not in any way I could see, nor any clues that he offered."
"Did you get a better look at the woman ? Could you use your magic to produce an image of her ?"

”If we were in the loop, then we would be forced into action as … the Tea thief was.” He looks at Ovid, winks and scratches his ear. “This way we just help the people who are in the loop or help people who are out of the loop know that there are things going on. And we have had a chance to learn something along the way.”
“Do you want to follow her? While the aperture was too small to see her and keeping it open took most of my concentration, I did get a good look through it and where it leads. First priority, is speaking to the Regent about this, but she might be open to you doing the hunting. You could always do your searching on the way back.”
“Discerning what the elders are doing is difficult at best and impossible most of the time. But would you really want to sit in the castle all the time handling the administration of the kingdom, juggle the political situation, maintain the morale and support of the common people, and a thousand and one other things? Or travel the width and breadth of Shadow following you whims and desires?” Xu Liang shakes his head, “To my eyes it looks to be a thankless and nearly impossible job. Perhaps he has come to the same conclusions?”
“Or perhaps he is laying groundwork from the bushes while he is free to move and he will pounce and seize power at a later date?” Kai offers from where he is padding along pacing Tea.
“Also a distinct possibility. And one he warned people would assume should his presence be known.”

"That is because he has done so before." Ovid says of Corwin.
"I agree though about the regent, or even King or Queen, it does not seem the job for me. So many pressures and the fear some relative may come and try to take it all from one. Your right though Xiu let's head back to the castle for now."
