I look at her confused for a moment " its the old trade tounge. Merchants learn it....nobles learn it. I was trained to be head of my Fostern's house guard so I needed to learn it. I've presumed it was one of the old invaders tounges we adapted for our use."

"Thari is a trader language. The traders of the Golden Cricle speak it, a group of lands that regulary do trade with each other." The woman replies. "Thari is not the language of invaders. But of course there are always some bad apples in the basket."
"Must be my lucky Day that you have learned it. Hand signs always leave to much open for misinterpretation." She goes on. "I found myself ones with a cow, when all I wanted was milk." She grins.

"Indeed. The Church doesn't care for it of course. But they enjoy the coin they get." He looks her over and then goes into the finer points of things for supplies [ OOC: Basically imagine anything from the isle of Man, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, or Greenland]

The Traveller does't want anything fancy: bread, cheese, harboiled eggs, salt meat.
When this is cleared out. "You told something about fairies, I gather good stories. What do are your fairies are like, are there stories about them?"

What do are your fairies are like, are there stories about them?"" The elves were the leading tribe of them. The God of the new church killed their God so they say. The dwarves, those under the mountains, died fighting the great spiders...the goblins were cursed by their God and ceased to exist. People tell stories about gnomes but none of the stories confirm they are real... The brownies and the little folk.....they are likely stories of something in the old religion we lost the refrence to."

"Interesting." The woman replies, she ponders for a moment.
"A good drink and a good meal, should be followed by a good tale. This is one from the place I grew up."
"Listen and remember Children between Sun and Sea " She starts. It sounds like a traditional start for a tale.
"When the world was young the Children between Sun and Sea lived all on one island and did not yet sailed the Thousand Isles as they do now. They had not learned yet to ride the waves on the wings of the wind.
Life was good and they prospered and their number grew. Their number grew so much that the island had not enough food for all. So they set their view to the horizon, where they could see other green isles.
And the children between Sun and Sea started to think, how can we reach these shores. And they watched how the birds flew to the distant shores, but failed to do like them. The children between Sun and Seas where no made to be able to fly. They watched the dolphins as the swam to the distant shores, but alas the Children between Sun and Sea were not made to swim such great distances.
And then when they started to despair, the Spirits of Wind and Water came to the Children between Sun and Sea and offered their help. But be warned the Spirits of Wind and Water are of fickle mind and you will never know if they mean good or not.
And the Spirit of Wind and Water demanded, as return for their help, the first living being that would land on the new shores.
It was a hard decision for the chieftains of the Children between Sun and Sea, but they agreed.
And the Spirits of Wind and Water taught the Children to build boats to ride the waves and to weave sails to catch the wind.
Now the Children between Sun and Sea could set out to reach the distant shores.
So one thing was left, to draw the lot who had to go with the Spirits of Wind and Water.
But then young girl barely out of the wet nurses care spoke out. >Let us take one of the great eagles from the high mountains, when we let it fly close to the shores if will seek a place to rest and land.<
And the Chieftains were relieved and followed the plan. When the new shores came into the sight they let the eagle flew and it landed on the new shores.
The Spirits of Wind and Water came and fumed. >You tricked us.<
But the young girl stood up and returned without fear. >You did not demanded one of us, you demanded the first living being to land on the new shores. <
And the oldest of the Spirits laughed. >Courage and cleverness. This is what the Children between Sun and Sea will need when the want to prosper among the Thousand Isles. And so shall it be and never shall it be forgotten or the Wind and Water will claim you.<
The woman finishes her tale.

I nod "Not bad...I am not sure any tale of my homeland would make much sense for one of your like."

"Maybe, maybe not." The woman looks out of the windows checking the Moons and the Tide.
"The statue before the Church, using a spear to kill the bear. Is it Lugh your people revere?"

"Maybe, maybe not." The woman looks out of the windows checking the Moons and the Tide. "The statue before the Church, using a spear to kill the bear. Is it Lugh your people revere?" He gives a deep hearty laugh. " Be careful. Saying names of the old gods to much and Church Templars might come for you. And it would be an awkward situation. And I am not a follower of the old gods per-say. No one here is to speak of. They'd not know who Lug is." His pronunciation is sort of an archaic Irish pronunciation. " The spear is a common weapon." You do note he has the sign of the Morrigan on his belt.
Reflecting upon it. The statute of the god looks much more like Conan then Lugh

"I try to no get to much involved with gods." She replies.
"I think when God's starts to take an interest in you, you are screwed up." She lowers her voice to a wisper "That holds even more true when it comes to their priests."

"The God King....he was once a man. King by his own hand. He saw the fates of men entering in decline and he ascended to the heavens His kingdom fell but the fates of men remained strong. Or that's what the New Church teaches. They pursue followers of the Old Gods....and human wizards. Thus if you find a Wizard here they all have a pedigree of their non-human ansectry. " He leans in and whispers back "Kings and nobles find Wizards to useful to have the church kill them all. Thus they have an accommodation with the church."

"I am lucky....I am adopted into a noble family, that combined with my natural skills and talents allows me some discretionary space where I can operate. I've been planning to get enough money where I can set myself up so I don't have to concern myself with them."

"Don't forget the waving and smiling. Makes them feel good." The woman gives back.
"I think the tide is turning. Time for me to go. When Fate wills, we might meet again, until then, may your ways always be straight and the sun shine warm on you." She leaevs for her ship.
