One has to be moving to find things and the more personal an item the more motion is needed to recover it.

We will have to back up first and see if Ryland takes the call. He is kind of busy at the moment.
Breep-reep, breep-reep, breep-reep

There is no response from Ryland. It seems like he has ditched you, Kai!

She figures he might be in a situation. She will take the General back to Amber in a respectful way and meet with Deek to set up proper housing for him. She will make sure 'Bill' (the lawyer from Shadow Earth) or whoever handles legal matters. That said, she will not jeapordize castle security. Her Trump deck is a standard family deck. She will get food to go from the bar so they have good traveling food. I'm sure they will encounter some horses with tackle and saddle (pattern use, if possible - we be close to Amber). Of course, she will recover her favorite sword (the blade of the castle guard who protected her as a child before she was recovered by the Moonriders).

#s://i~ibb~co/h1Q9gR6/strasser~jpg "Yes, I think now is the best time to return to Amber," the general says. Out of the inn, crossing the yard, a crossbow bold pierces the ground in front of Kailessa's feet. "That's a warning, girl. We have you surrounded. Hand over the General," comes a voice from the roof of one of the buildings. The General gives Kai a shrug.

"Okay, you got me. Wow, surrounded."
This line is just designed to buy her enough time to do the following.
She will take a step through the nearest veil, the barrier between shadows, using her warfare she will identify numbers and locations of opponents. Calling her blade to her she will shift back in right behind the crossbowman and take a swing at him ( stashed the blade nearby so I could call it to me). If the opportunity presents itself, she will move fast on these attackers and take them out fast. Since she is not shifting a great distance or through many shadows, she will exploit this to come onto the opposition quickly. Essentially, strike and shift.. then shift back on the next opponent. If you remember, she scouted the area and the nearby veils/shadows as she shifted into this place. No quarter is given.... she will concentrate on the weakest links/combatants who do not have immediate support first.

If she can, she will utilize the pattern lens to know the movements of her enemies from a shadow veil away. No quarter unless they surrender, if the fight gets tough she will widen the circle by going another veil out. They will likely move as a group even if she can't get them all and they will protect the general. This means a perimeter around the target. She will just pick them off one by one, using her knowledge of hunting. Her strength is pretty good for a young Amberite and she will exploit this as well. She will slip on her leather armor if the opportunity presents itself. So essentially the tactic is take them out one by one, unless their skills are not up to hers in which case this will be a quick and brutal blood bath. If not, hunt them one by one from nearby shadows, she can take her time and observe their positions from a nearby shadow with pattern lens. In the quick option for combat, she will just use her knowledge and skills to make quick work of them. If they are skilled, well, its as I said she will take them out one by one. If one is away from the group, say, relieving themselves - that target is dead.

Nope. Doesn't work like that at all. Not even close. She's with these guys in this shadow with no way to escape quickly.

How many of them are there? You did indicate that I was chasing him through Shadow. Have they manipulated the shadow to prevent anyone from shifting out by making minute changes to one's perception.
If I can't shift out, what is the character's assessment of the tactical situation?

#s://i~ibb~co/h1Q9gR6/strasser~jpg Shifting is a slow, gradual process; anyone can follow a person while they shift. A person can't fight or defend themself when concentrating on shifting. A few buildings are making a rough U shape around the stableyard. The bolt and voice came from the roof of the building ahead of her, and logic would suggest that more assailants were also on the rooftops. "I would do what they say, my friend. They have travelled a long way to meet me and will find this delay to be a great annoyance. I do appreciate your kindness, and I would trust you to do what you can for me in Amber, but I would rather return to the Courts with my fellows," the General says.
